iPhone 3G not syncing with iTunes - "Device cannot be found"
« on: April 27, 2014, 09:21:14 PM »
I have an iPhone 3g(4.2.1, 6.15.00)
i am trying to restore to WD 7.1 with latest itunes (installed in windows xp).
Itunes recognises my device, but when i click my device tab in itunes, it says 'syncing with device' and gives a message " 'iphone name' cannot be synced because it cannot be found" and device stops showing in itunes.

I tried replugging the usb and rebooting pc, none worked. The same sync error is shown everytime.

Note: i tried replacing my iPhone 3g preferences.app with iPhone 4's for the greed of accessibility feature, after that settings app crashed everytime i tried to access it. I didnt care that much at that time.
Does this preferences thing has anything to do with itunes sync error?? Or is it due to windows xp??

Waiting for help desperate to use wd7.1 after seeing its fame and features

Welcome to the forums :)

Unless you went messing with daemons or cleaning scripts, I would hazard a guess that the USB cable is faulty. Can you try it with another cable?
Does iTunes throw up an error number along with the generic error about the device not being found?

When you want to restore to whited00r, first you should manually back up all your data so you can manually restore it afterwards, because you can't (and shouldn't) restore from a backup onto a whited00r device as that causes many bugs that can't be fixed.
You can back up and restore manually following this tutorial:
[Tutorial] Backup Apps & Data BEFORE Upgrading iOS Firmware WD 7 3.1.3 4.1 4.2.1

Thanx for the reply bruan, xpected u :D.
The same iPhone got detected in iFunbox, but when i tried installing any
ipa through iFunbox, the program disconnects the phone and shuts down.
So can i downgrade my BB with this situation with redsn0w?

Didn't mess with daemons. Read in the forums that a restore would bring back everything to normal, as I already have 4.2.1, what if I just proceed to downgrade BB on redsn0w and go on with WD 7.1 installation

Haha well, I do what I do to help out ;)

Did you just recently upgrade iTunes versions?   Also, just because it is detected via the computer doesn't mean the cable isn't bad ;)  I have had cables like that before as well, although with the phone shutting down, no.

I wouldn't try using redsn0w or even attempting a restore right now...   If doing anything file system moving wise over the cable does this, you may have something else at play...
Can you just upload a test file to the device using iFunBox?  (Like, just an image, to /var/mobile maybe, not using the sync function)

Dear Bruan,

thanxalot for the quick replies, that means a lot to me
by the way redsn0w detects my iphone and itunes also works fine now. "NO SYNC ERROR"

seems it was some administrator privilege issue
got it solved

right now downloading WD7.1 and required files for downgrading BB

will ask if any help needed while installling

Take care

Vardhan,

So what exactly did you do? I have the same problem. I synced once. Decided that I had synced the wrong folder, so selected another, and from then on the phone is recognised, but unsyncable. I get the same message  . . . file not found.

Sounds like you did something with Redsn0w? Did you just start over with the installation from the beginning or did you do some kind of diagnostic and repair?

Cheers, Sean

Oh, I know sometimes redsn0w needs to be run as an administrator, but I haven't heard of iTunes needing it :o

That can take quite a while depending on the internet speed, I wouldn't worry about it unless it takes more than 15 minutes.

You can restore to iOS 4.2.1, but that would put you on the 05.15.04 baseband, which isn't unlockable (not sure if you needed it, but seeing you were wanting to downgrade it I assumed you wanted an unlock).

succesfully installed whited00r :D
thanx everone

Glad it's working now :)
