ok i am about ready to give up on this phone i created dfu mode ipsw, which i installed and used ireb which put the device in wtf mode i tunes found device in restore and 1602 with WD7 normal and unlocker.

so i started over and loaded dfu ipsw followed by redsn0w which found device in wtf mode and could not do any thing with. so i sn0wbreeze a 3.1.3 jail-broken and unlocked and also got 1602.

now these test were done with a brand new cable on 2 computers with same results. also i was going with the assumption that the home button was broken, if you know another way to WD6 or WD7 please let me know and lets assume the home button is broken.

thanks for all your help so far.

The device shouldn't be in WTF mode :o

Anyway, an alternative method for those who have a broken home/power button is to instead of even using PWNED DFU or a DFU .ipsw, restore to stock 3.1.2, then use Bl4ckra1n to jailbreak the device.
Once it is finished, don't start installing anything. Instead, you *should* be able to just restore straight to whited00r 7 without needing to enter DFU mode at all.
Just open iTunes and shift+click the restore button and choose the whited00r .ipsw.

(I think actually restoring to the DFU .ipsw or entering PWNED DFU mode will mess it up, so don't do that when trying this method ;) )

A very simple fix, follow the instructions on this site:
Fix ASL.dll missing error on Bl4ckra1n

iReb only works with iTunes 11.05 or under.  I would stick with redsn0w for now though. Does redsn0w give any errors at all on entering PWNED DFU mode?

Removing old backups in iTunes differs by OS, but taken from this thread: Where does iTunes 11 keep backups?, it seems to be fairly simple to find:
Quote
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:

Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and clickOK.
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press theReturn key.

Well you needed to do that before restoring to whited00r unless you have a backup in iTunes, which then you can grab the data out of a backup (don't restore from a backup though!).

Anyway, this tutorial should get you started:

the reason i want to know is to be able to add or subtract info, apps, contacts, music etc. with out wiping the phone and having to start over again. these phones are new to me learning as i go getting ready to get service for them.

What do you mean?  You have to wipe a device to install whited00r on it, and you can't restore from a backup in iTunes after it's done otherwise you get lots of bugs.
You can however manually back up the data before a restore and then put it back in place afterwards.  This causes no bugs, but still has the same effect as an iTunes backup/restore.

You can manage music, apps, contacts, notes and so on with iTunes or iTools after you have restored to whited00r, that is fine. It's just the restoring from a backup instead of setting up as a new device that causes problems.

these phones are new to me what i want to be able to do is take my saved music  that i got from my own collection and add it to the phone. or even be able, after i get the phone the way i like, to save all the inputted info. i went through the trouble of inputting all my phone numbers then synced to iTunes and lost it all i don't want to do that again. lets consider this a new phone.

You should be able to just sync data with iTunes without an issue? :o

You can manually do it all with iTools though. It's possible that something else is at play though, make sure you have installed the "Patch v3" from Repod00r as that helps fix some permissions issues that the iPhone 2G has with contacts for some people.
