WD7 loses ability to log on to secure wireless at university
« on: March 05, 2014, 07:29:38 PM »
Dear Forum and Whitedoor team,

First, I must say what an incredible job you have done with Whitedoor 7. My 3G running 4.2.1 was dying after 3 hours or so, now I go nearly 7. Amazing amazing work you guys!  As well, the interface is so fast, and so darned usable I have totally dropped my interest in a hardware upgrade.  Too, the upgrade to Whitedoor was easy, took only a few minutes and worked the first time. Truly awesome Whitedoor devs!

So, here is the problem. After the upgrade, I am no longer able to log on to my university's wireless network. Whitedoor gets stuck on a security certificate notice, and won't budge. My only choice is to hit cancel.

Can someone help?  Is there a patch for this?

Many thanks on the genius work-I love my Whitedoor 3 G phone!

I'm not really sure but I might as well go ahead and suggest going into the wireless settings and "Forgetting the Network" then trying to re connect.

Welcome to the forums :)

This is probably caused by a certain daemon being disabled.  (system function, disabled for speed)
You can enable it by going to Settings -> Whited00r Settings, and enabling the advanced config. When enabled, go to the last page and turn on Profile Janitor, and press Apply Changes.  Let it run through doing this (don't close out of the app or lock the screen), and after it is done, you should be able to connect to secure networks and the like :)

Same problem here.
In fact Profile Janitor was disabled but I activated it and I still can't join the network on campus.
The problem is that I can't accept the certificate, look at the screenshot I attached.
Shouldn't there be a button to accept the certificate? I can see only a Cancel button which is pretty useless :D
I have an iPod Touch 2G MC with Whited00r 7.0 Developer Preview 1.

Did you press apply changes after toggling profile Janitor?

Well, I did, but apparently something went wrong. According to this thread http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index?topic=10698.0 the Profile Janitor activation should fix the problem... is there any other way to activate it? maybe a command to be run in the terminal...

I know you don't have an internet connection but can you download the patch through repod00r? Via another wifi network or tethering your phones data connection...
And I have no idea bout the attachment...

I solved in this way. I entered Safe Mode by running the following command on the terminal
Code: [Select]
killall -SEGV SpringBoard
then I managed to accept the certificate (a small Accept button appears on the left of Not verified). Now I can connect to the network even outside of Safe Mode.
Thank you very much for your help!

Great to know you fixed it and please do not delete this so we can reference this in the future :)
BTW that was one of the last options as I was going to suggest :P

I think why the settings changes probably weren't working was because you didn't have the patch from repod00r (actually, if you didn't have that, then the settings wouldn't have worked).

There was a command you could have used to set the permissions manually and force start the correct daemon as well though, but safemode seems like an easier option to do ;)

What is the name of the patch please?   I will give it a try. BTW if anyone from the Whited00r team is reading these, the 'Forget Network' button is also missing from the wireless setting pages.

Yeah, this is what I get as well. Its frustrating as frustrating can be. Did you happen to notice if you have a 'Forget this Network' button?  I don't.

I'm just following up with responses to some of the suggestions to thank you all for trying to help, and to update you on the results.

Firstly, to Braun-the janitor did nothing to help the situation at all. I still get the same certificate, without the button, and I have no 'Forget this Network' function at all.

Someone else suggested downloading a patch. What is the name of the patch please?

Many thanks to the Whited00r team who've really built something amazing, and many thanks to those of you who reached out to offer suggestions. I'm glad to know I am not alone with this issue, and grateful for all of your help and suggestions.

cheers!

The patch from Repod00r is what we are talking about.  If the settings failed to apply, then that could be why if profile janitor was never enabled truly.

Hi Braun,

Thank you so much for your help!

I did the Janitor process with no improvement.

I assume when you write "...The patch from Repod00r ..." you meant the only patches available there?  I found three, when I went to the repo, and applied patch 3. I'm hoping I didn't need to do each of them in order!  Anyway I'm at home now on my home network, so I could get on the wireless and apply the patch here. I will be on campus tomorrow and discover if the patch 3 solved the problems!

Have I done what was needed?  Do I need to reapply the Janitor process?

As well, in case you might not know, not only was there no button to accept the certificates, but there was no button to 'Forget the Network'. Does this patch resolve both issues?

Many thanks!  You guys are incredible!

If the whited00r settings were not applying settings then the profile janitor process will need to be reapplied after the install of the patch v3 (as simple as making sure the switch for it is "On" and pressing the "Apply Changes" button and waiting for the device to respring)

If you never connected to the network, that would explain why you don't have an option to forget the network ;)
