the other phone i gave to my wife seems to work better than this one so that's what i am using for comparison. i realize it may come down to replacing the mother board or the com board just trying to avoid that step.

It could be that the motherboard has maybe loose connections to the battery, or actually has water damage. :(

Do you have the correct APN settings, as well as an active data connection? (Required to send MMS)

You don't need a data line active, you just need a data connection. So if you have disabled data in any way, you have to enable it again so that you can send MMS.  It shouldn't use up any data carrier wise, because they count MMS as texting, but it does require data connection to work ;)

my plan is talk and text no data, so i under stand that it wont work that way. i need to get data plan added.

so is there a app that i can use besides face book and e-mail to sent pictures.

i have an off the wall question whats the difference between 4g and 8g boards besides storage space. does it have any affect on how it preforms speed wise. i can get a used motherboard and com-board complete with battery and 1 yr warranty for like 20 bucks which includes shipping

Does the plan include MMS?  Even without a data plan, you can still send MMS, as the carrier counts MMS not as data.  It just requires a data connection, even if you don't have the plan for it.  So, just don't disable data and you should be able to send MMS.

I don't know about apps that still work :( I would have said whatsapp, but that's kind of broken API wise now and no way to fix it if you never had a saved app backup where you were logged in.

I think it's just the storage space, but it could do other stuff hardware wise, but that shouldn't be any different than just swapping out a bad motherboard would do.

I've got a few tips for you. Update itunes, if you consitently have an issue with DFU mode, try re-restoring to the DFU ipsw I had an issue that this fixed. Also, DO NOT open itunes while your phone is in DFU mode; it will force you to click a notification, which will put your phone in WTF mode. Make sure it's in pwned DFU first. I don't know why, but redsn0w which I already had on two computers failed to put one of my ipods in pwned DFU mode, while the version provided with Whited00r didn't.

I didn't know that the clicking/opening of iTunes while in DFU mode kicked you to WTF mode, I suppose one learns something new every day :o

The version of redsn0w included with the whited00r download is the version that works best with the older devices, which is 0.9.14b2.  Same goes for iReb when we suggested using that, only v5 or v6 of that worked well for everyone.
