I think this is more of a hardware problem; have you dropped it or has it made contact with water recently?
You see this dog? Yeah, she's my cute dog. (☞゚∀゚)☞

If you did not restore from a backup in iTunes after the restore, then it certainly is a hardware issue.  (Otherwise, restore again without restoring a backup onto the device...)

It really does sound like a hardware issue though mate :(

i've tried everything, so its most likely a hardware issue. do you know if its possible to get this fixed?

Unless it's water damage, you should be able to fix it at a store or send it to apple to fix.

Depending on what is damaged (I'm not so good at hardware), it may be covered by apple, or they at least can give you an estimate or help determine what is wrong.

Try pressing at the location in the pic(at a time and both)..... there is a strip which connects the touch glass to the screen and other parts.... This happens only when you drop it or it wasn't repaired or reassembled last time if it dosent work youll have to open the phone and reconnect the strip (which is very riskey if you don't know what your doing :P) try giving it to a good repair shop (or apple if your rich :P)......
Try this at the right side of the iPod (I used my iPhone 3g in this) the strip is at the right side (I don't know where in iPod)...
