Can't install Backgrounder due to overwriting package
« on: August 31, 2014, 12:51:28 PM »
After installing whited00r7, I'm having trouble installing one essential Cydia app that I use all the time. It's called Backgrounder and it's a form of multitasking that I prefer over the default one. Anyway, I try to install it and this happens:

It doesn't install! I've tested it on iOS 3.1.2 and 4.2.1, but whited00r7 refuses to install it. If I can't get this working, whited00r is useless to me. Can someone help me out?

Backgrounder is already installed with whited00r :P
It's just an old version. We wouldn't recommend updating it as it may break some functionality of whited00r and to background make sure that old multitasking is enabled and Sara disabled so that there is no conflict.

The 'Backgrounder' in whited00r's settings is in no way related to the Backgrounder app on Cydia. Cydia's Backgrounder actually keeps the apps open when you return to the home screen, whited00r's backgrounder just closes the apps. The only thing whited00r's Backgrounder does is bring up multitasking tabs when you double-tap the home button, which I never want it to do in the first place. How do I replace whited00r's Backgrounder with Cydia's Backgrounder?

You need to press and hold the home button (if you enabled the right things).
1. Open whited00r settings and enable the advanced config
2. Enable the old app switcher (manual multitasking)
3. Apply the changes
4. After the restoring go back into whited00r settings and go to feature. You will see backgrounder in blue text. Enable it
5. You have enabled backgrounding. You just need to press and hold the home button.

This should awnser your question you just got a little confused between app switchers and the backgrounding. Don't worry it's easily done :P

Okay, so I turned the App Switcher to Manual Multitasking and enabled Backgrounder. Now when I hold the home button in an app..... nothing happens. Seriously, it doesn't even go to the home screen. Now what?

As I said in the previous thread you will need to re-restore to whited00r

Forget it, by this point I've lost patience with whited00r. It's not just the backgrounder problem, I can't view my deviantArt messages because I require iOS 4.x or up, and I'm experiencing perpetual giant icons. whited00r is more trouble than it's worth; I'd rather go back to iOS 4.2.1. Thanks for trying to help.

If you have giant icons, open and close a few apps and they will go away.

But I have to do that every five minutes when the springboard crashes! Isn't there a permanent fix?

Disable the unlock animation and opening animation in the whited00r settings
Locked until whited00r is installed properly... (I will unlock it once you PM me)

You are having a horrible experience with the actual whited00r firmware (not the deviantArt issue, that's a 3.1.3 issue), because you restored from a backup in iTunes which we say all over the forums not to do, ever. (because it causes unfixable and unpredictable issues, not a whited00r issue only either. Doing so on a jailbroken firmware even can cause issues to some extent)

Only actual crash from whited00r would be the incoming call crash some people get (probably 70% or so), which can be worked around by disabling the lock screen tweak.   (we are trying to fix it, but it's a lot of working keeping all this up and debugged).

Do what iTechy21 said above in the thread he linked to about backing up app and other data manually, and doing a clean restore if you still want to give whited00r a shot (unless you need iOS 4, which then no worries :) ).
