iPhone 3GS - Error 3194 when restoring
« on: March 10, 2013, 06:24:45 AM »
Hi, having an error when restoring my iPhone 3GS to iOS 3.1.3 in iTunes.

"The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)"

Please help. I already uncheck the Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit. in TinyUmbrella. And I already used other PC for this, still the same error occurred.

I found out that my iPhone has no SHSH backup iOS 3.1.3 in Cydia. That's why I can't downgrade it from 4.1 to 3.1. :(
Is there any way for this?

Quit iTunes
Locate your hosts file, in Mac OS X this is /etc/hosts and in Windows this is c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open the hosts file with Administrator privileges
Add the following lines to the very bottom of the hosts file:
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Connect your iPhone to the computer
Launch iTunes
Put the iPhone/iPad/iPod into DFU mode by turning the phone off and then holding down the sleep and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but hold onto the home button until iTunes tells you that the device is now in recover mode
Use the iTunes Restore feature as usual with the iOS device

Use google  ;)

You don't need SHSH blobs to downgrade to whited00r :) Have you followed the instructions posted here?
Whited00r installation solutions

I noticed you said it was a 3gs in the title of your post?   Are you sure it is that, and not a 3G?
(the quickest way to tell is by looking at the back of the iPhone, if the text for "iPhone" is silvery/reflective, rather than grey, it is an iPhone 3GS).

That would be your problem then :(  Whited00r is not for the 3GS, just the iPhone 3G and 2G (and iPod touch 1 and 2).
You can actually run iOS6 on your device though ;)

If you want a custom firmware still, you can try Archetype - a custom firmware package for every iOS version and device  after you have jailbroken :)

This seemed to fix my 3194 error pretty quick... http://howtofixstuff.blogspot.ca/2012/01/how-to-successfully-fix-itunes-error.html

That wouldn't have solved it in this case sadly :(
