Hey folks,
thanks for all the good work you do here. I've been using an old revision (4.2 I think) of WhiteD00r quite happily, but today I wanted to update it to get the new goodies. But I've hit a roadblock installing the 7.1 ipsw.

I follow the instructions exactly, using RedSn0w to put device in the Pwned DFU mode. But when I then try iTunes, it pops up the error:

"The ipod software update server could not be contacted. The server does not support this version of itunes"

and then completely ignores the iPod!

I've tried same steps on Mac & Windows both with iTunes 12.4 - same result
I've tried older revision of iTunes on Windows (11.4) - same result - I used that version as this guy made it work: [1]
I've checked my hosts file and verified no apple.com entries there
I've tried switching wired & wireless internet, since I saw another thread mention that. No change.

So I'm out of ideas, and found no other suggestions here.
Anything I can do to help investigate this, let me know
-G

I haven't found the magic needed to install whited00r and I tried a number of iterations.

My hunch is that Apple changed something at the server end in a way where whited00r's published process simply no longer works.

Recently??  I've installed it before, on the same iPod touch 1G that it won't install on now.

Yes, last time it was this summer, but I have installed Whited00r 6 once on my iPod and about 3 times 7.1 cause I have installed some themes on it and didn't backup the files so I have installed it again :D

I've been fussing with this for two days now.. Went through multiple computers (windows/mac) and various iTunes versions. It appears that anything below iTunes V12 cannot contact the servers to do even a factory restore. It also appears that iTunes tries to 'phone home' about the device and will issue a "The server is not compatible with this version of iTunes." error when anything in Pwned DFU mode connects.

Using redsn0w v 0.9.14b2

Still trying my best to get this to work, if I find a solution, I'll let you all know.

Finally got it to work with the most current version of iTunes. Not sure what I did, but I suspect it has to do with rebooting my machine following uninstallation AND reinstallation of iTunes and corresponding components. Try it and let me know, guys!
