[TUT] How to speed up Whited00r
« on: May 04, 2011, 01:30:34 AM »

This guide is for v4.3.1 of Whited00r. Older and newer versions might not be supported by this. Whited00r is known to be very fast for an old device. It can be made faster if you delete some things that you might not need.

1) Donít install other mobile substrates.
Mobile Substrates will edit things on your iPhone or iPod but they also slow down your iPhone or iPod a lot. Whited00r comes preloaded with a couple mobile substrates. You can find them in /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries. Whited00r comes with Backgrounder*, iOS3Multitasking*, Folders and Simple Background* [* only for Full Edition]. If you donít use one of these you can delete the .dylib and the .plist file for it in /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries and then respring. This will improve your iPhone or iPodís speed. Installing more substrates will slow your device down more. (Note: Backgrounder is needed for iOS3 multitasking)

2) Delete unused daemons.
Whited00r disables most daemons on their firmware but some are up to you to delete because they are used by some people. Whited00r says the following daemons are safe to delete but you should back them up anyway Navigate to System/Library/LaunchDaemons to delete them:
com.apple.search.plist ó[remove if you don't user Spotlight search]
com.apple.apsd.plist ó[remove if you don't use PushNotifications]
com.apple.dataaccess.dataaccessd.plist ó[remove if you don't use Exchange or Google Sync]
com.apple.datamigrator.plist ó[remove if you don't want to import contacts from SIM card]
com.apple.racoon.plist ó[remove if you don't use VNP: Virtual Private Networks]
com.apple.MobileInternetSharing.plist ó[remove if you don't use Tethering]
com.apple.AOSNotifications.plist ó[remove if you don't use MobileMe Sync]
com.apple.mobile.obliteration.plist ó[remove if you don't need to delete data from Exchange, from Reset menu or with the function of failed passcode]

3) Donít run lots of apps in the background.
Apps that are running in the background think that they are running in the foreground. Therefore the apps donít release the resources that they donít need. This uses a lot of your deviceís ram and the 1st generation devices only have 128MB of it. Only background the amount of apps you need and then stop backgrounding them when you are done. Open the multitasking and push and hold an app. The app should then start to jiggle like it would on the springboard and a close badge will come up like in the image below. Click the badge and the app will stop backgrounding. Then push the home button to get out of it.

4) Delete Language Packs
Here is an easy guide for how to delete Language Packs.
If the following link are currently not available, you may follow this links: Xsellize
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below.

5) Speed Up Cydia
You could try to add a modded .js file to Cydia to make it faster (no loading time of description):
put in /Applciations/Cydia.app
http://www.multiupload.com/6WEDL753Y6
This will also include the new Cydia icon.

6) Instead of cydia, use Icy. It is still a BETA version, but it is still faster than Cydia!

7) 2XRM

2XRM is a script that removes all @2x.png images a.k.a RETINA Images. The images on the iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS and the iPod Touch 1G, 2G and 3G are optimized for their 320x480 display. Since the retina display is 640x960 the images are bigger in size and they take up more memory.

Place the 2XRM file (SSH into your iDevice) in usr/bin

Give "0755" Permissions

Then Open/Install Mobile Terminal and login as "root"

(To do so... type "su" and then for the password type "alpine" (Default password ))

Then run the command "2xrm"

Follow the directions following

I get on every now and then to check up
Go ahead and download Whited00r 8 BETA if you haven't yet: http://goo.gl/AFZIUT <------

Hey Alavi. Would you mind adding some speed up tweaks to your post? (OR I guess I can do it if you don't 'mind.) But Perhaps we could add the 2xrm tweak?

:( I copied it. set 0755 but no clear retinal Address

So you did this:

Step 1: Place the "2xrm" file in "usr/lib"

Step 2: Give "0755" Permissions

(Save, put in the "alpine" password if prompted)

Step 3: Open Mobile Terminal

Step 4: Login as root ("su" - "alpine")

Step 5: Run the EXACT command and ONLY command "2xrm"

Nothing happened after that?

Lol... Oh my gosh. CavinKlein... You have it set as a .txt file.

REDOWNLOAD and put in "usr/lib"

Give "0755" permissions. Its not suppose to be a .txt file.

It doesn't even have an extension.

Download LINK:http://www.mediafire.com/?6785l8p15sou5h5

Make sure it DOES NOT end up as a .txt file.
