Installed Cydia and Realbackup 0.6.2 on iOS 4.2.1. No errors during installation that I noticed

Realbackup does not start. Just goes back to home screen. Restarted phone, no difference.

Installed the current realbackup beta directly after that. Got some errors during install -

Preparing RealBackup-beta
x Sub-process/usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
x trying to overwrite '/Applications/RealBackup.app/About', which is also in package com.myrepospace.realblack7.realbackup

Any advice on resolving these issues?

Btw, my overall plan is to backup from iOS 4.2.1 then install Whited00r and restore data to that. Do you think that will work?

Thanks!

Removed Realbackup 0.6.2 and installed Realbackup-Beta 0.7b5. The beta starts ok. Going forward. Still appreciate any comments on plan to backup on iOS 4.2.1 and restore that to Whited00r.

Continuing from above - I click backup in RealBackup (beta) after enabling all personal data items and personal data.

I have volume turned up, but there is no audio indication and after a second or so RB closes and I see the home screen again.

SSH in as root. There is no data in /var/mobile/Backup. I can find no logs belonging to RB in /Library/Logs.

This is a 3G running iOS 4.2.1.

Are you able to assist?  :D

Yeah but as in post above, no data and no logs, so unsure how to figure out what is going on in there.

you installed the beta from my repo right? repo.realblack7.bplaced.net
you said that you enabled everything, but did you enable the personal data in detail? becuase you can also choose what you want to backup from the personal data panel(e.g. contacts)

are popups showing up`? like: do you wan to start the backup?yes/no

is launchtl working for you? open terminal and type in:
su
alpine
launchctl list

and tell me if it is working or not

I installed both from http://cydia.myrepospace.com/realblack7/   - is that ok? should i remove and reinstall from the repo you named?

I enabled (On) every item in Configure Backup > Personal Data Backup, and also enabled Configure Backup > Do you want to backup? > Personal Data > On

I'm getting no popups or prompts after choosing Backup. The option is selected, remains selected for 10 seconds, after that the app exits back to the home screen. No prompts or popups.

I'll try the terminal next and come back in a sec.

I installed your terminal 521-1. I executed 'launchtl list' from there. The command executes and displays several screens worth of listing.

I have to tell you, my password is not 'alpine'. I changed it after installing OpenSSH, so I'm using the new password to get this listing.

Installed from your correct repo. Got the same behavior from the release version there.

Better behavior from the Beta in your correct repo (now 0.7b8) this time.

I set the 'Configure' options the same as before and then clicked 'Backup'. This time I got a prompt, I chose 'yes'. After that I got another prompt to set a name for the backup.

I set a name in Options (first name was "421may14-1am") and backed out of that area. Going back to the main screen 'Backup' is still selected (blue) and pressing it has no effect. Went back and changed the name to "421may" in case it does not like the hyphen. Backed out of that area, still the same. Restarted iPhone. (There was a 'do you want to start the backup' prompt when I started the iPhone, but I missed it and unlocking the screen dismissed the prompt) Started app, clicked Backup, chose 'Yes' to the prompt.

Btw, no sound at all during these actions. Turned it up to max prior to starting.

OpenSSH is now showing some data in /var/mobile/Backup. I will get that out of there tomorrow and see what I have. Is there any method to verify that backup data before I install Whited00r?

I checked /Library/Logs to see if there was an operations log. I could not see anything obvious there.

Is the only data I need to copy out of there \var\mobile\Backup\421may ?

I will return to continue some more in approx 10 hours. Thanks for your assistance on this one.

this versoin has no sounds. just alerts.
in the 421may folder should be all the backup files. they have tar.gz as name ending.

could you send me the logs?
and you are going from 4.2.1 to 3.1.3 right? from 3.1.3 it is possible to just restore and everythings fine. i did not try the other way around

Yes, that is correct. I'm sorry, where do I find the logs exactly and the exact name? No luck finding them so far.

Also, in this version is there intended to be a completion notify/prompt displayed after the backup is complete? I'm not seeing one. Is that expected for this version?

i think there is a message saying" Closing now.." and before that i think a "backup complete" or so.
the logs are supposed to be in:
/Library/RealBackup/Logs
just give me the whole folder
