Does anyone know if an ios 5 based firmware is being developed by anyone for the 3G or would that be too difficult.

Not so much difficult as impossible…

Research a bit before you ask…

Thanks for the reply.

I thought that if a 4.2.1 firmware could be done then possably a 5 could also be done.

I did look look but could not find any mention of it being impossible, but I bow to your superior knowledge as i am a newby in this area   :)

It's not that difficult to understand… 1G/2G iDevices can't run iOS 5…

Apple took out support from first gen devices at ios 3.1.3 and for secobd gen devices(like iphone 3g/ipod touch 2g) at ios 4.2.1
So there is NO any other possibl eway to put ios 5 on these devices..
Least possible idevice to put ios5 is iphobe 3gs

The Whited00r Team needs to buy iPods 1G/2G & iPhones 2G/3G for testing WD 6.1 Beta, Apps & Features. We need your help to keep WD Free.

Incorrect our iOS 4 based software for 3G is actually 3Gs software. So maybe. It is just early to ask this for there is no public release of iOS 5

It is clearly possible.
If you use the 3GS software with some Features disabled it will work.
Even iCloud probably will work then.
Okay youre iPhone probably will be slow as hell......

No, you simple cannot run an ipsw designed for a different device no matter how much you mod it.  You can mod iOS 4 and 3.1.3 to look/feel like it, but not put iOS 5 on it.  Just like iOS 4 cannot run on an iPhone 2g, iOS 5 cannot run on an iPhone 3g.

You do know that the 3G and 3GS have different Processor archs, right? ARM6 vs ARM7…

Also, .ipsw are tailored specifically fir the iDevice that it wad made for.
