I know I changed it to an ipa, then used installous, notifications only work if it is installed into /User/Applications not /Applications
But it still won't work

Solution
install InfiniteSMS from AppStore then go to var/mobile/Applications/(whatevernumber)
and delete that file
then you place mine on /Applications and notifications will be fine
(it worked for me)

i made one by faking my ip and doing it by textfree with voice

Hmm...even the app store version notifications are broken......
I guess I'll just keep the google voice app and get notifications from that and use this to send/view messages.
The google voice app has the cruddiest gui ever...
