SMS problem - WD5 RC
« on: November 22, 2011, 12:49:07 PM »
Hi everyone,

I need the help from you, guys, with a problem I just discovered on my iPhone 2G WD5 RC...
I installed WD5 2 days back and this morning I realized that I've not received any SMS since I restored...
This morning I had to send a SMS so I opened bitesms and, when I taped on "send", the app immediately crashed without sending anything... Thinking of a problem with bite I opened the native app and, when I taped on "send", even this app immediately closed...
I tried to respring and reboot and nothing changed...
I also tried a restore of network settings but the result did not change...
I also thought that the problem could be the CommCenter (I replaced it with the one I clung on your forum to enable MMS) so I restored the original one (that I saved as a backup) and I checked its permissions... After rebooting nothing changed again...

The problem is just with SMS messaging (and, of course, with MMS)... I cannot send / receive any message... The phone part works well, like push notifications (I restored my old certs with inject/nimble)...

Before proceding with a fw restore I wanted to ask you if you can suggest me any solution...

Thanks a lot everyone for your help!!!

did you setup your phone as new phone after restore?

try to uninstall( or disable) bitesms, since the mobilesubstrate hooks the native sms app the problem can still be on bitesms's side

@realblack7: thanks for your answare but "it's too late" to try what you suggest... i mean I already decided to restore the fw thus (luckily) solving the problem... now I'm spending time reinstalling all the apps... :)

I know I'll be OT, but I'd like to ask you a thing about WD5: I've noticed that in the AppSwitcher bar the icon "Minimise" does not appear... It was there when I had the v 4.4.1 and it was extremely useful...
I've also seen that in the folder /System/Lybrary/CoreServices/Springboard.app/AppSwitcher there is the icon named Minimise.png... so there must be something wrong with the AppSwitcher code... or has this button been removed intentionally?

thanks everyone for your time and for trying helping me!!!

Yes Meo, I'd really like it if you give me further informations about the plist I need to modify... thanks a lot...

however, going back to the main issue, I have news for you...  I discovered there's some app from cydia which makes my sms app not working... in fact after restoring the firmware I installed some apps & tweaks from cydia and, after that, the sms started not working again... (note that I saw that sms were not working WITHOUT installing bitesms yet)

I restored again few minutes back and I'm installing one app per time always checking the sms functionality... If I encounter again the issue I will let you know...

Hey guys, I discovered the cause of the issue... PERMISSIONS!!!
I mean, after restoring I copied the file sms.db to /var/mobile/library/SMS and I set permissions to 0755...
I just discovered that this was not enough for my fw, and I solved setting to 0777...  :-\ (maybe I was just remembering wrong the code of the permissions I had to set)

so, this problem is gone... I just wait for your indications on how to make the Minimize icon appear in the AppSwitcher bar...  ;)

k thanks everyone!!!

ah..if you'd told that you did that the problem would have been solved earlier^^

anyway i am glad it works finally for you

BTW: my sms.db has only permissions 0644 and it's working, but maybe it is a iOS3 thing:D

you're right, realblack7, but actually I did not think at the sms.db file since it's an operation I've done so many times without having any kind of problem...
However, many thanks to everyone for the support... ;)

Now I just wait for indications (from Meo or whoever... :) ) on how to make the minimize button appear in the AppSwitch bar...

many thanks again guys...

I have a problem with receiving textmessages too, they are coming in way to late, sometimes 3days later.

Can I fix that ?
