Well, it starts the sound and keeps playing until the sound is done, even if the device is done booting...

try updating Ch40s-Utilities from my repo, as a while back I released an update that broke onBoot (what this uses to work).  I reverted those changes in the latest release, so it *should* be working again.  Ch40s-Utilities 2.5.5

Oh...  then that might be a bad sign...  you tried reinstalling bootsound?  run from terminal after you reinstall and re-select your sound "onBoot"

make sure every sound is all the way up (notification and media sound, I don't remember which it plays by).  So that means turn the silent switch off if you are using an iPhone ;)

open up terminal, and then, as root, (su, then alpine is the password normally), type in "onBoot"  (without quotes)

that is just to see if it plays the sound ;) if not, then I probably need to update bootsound :P because I'm pretty sure onboot is working now (according to applepie anyway)

That's weird... Try as root running
"chmod 775 /var/mobile/BootSound/Sounds/yoursound.mp3"
(change yoursound.mp3 to the sound you want.  And remove any spaces from the file name)

Unfortunately, you are wrong. It might slow down the boot up itself, but it is only one daemon. I made a smart daemon, and you can enable/disable it as you wish.  The daemon isn't even in this app. It's in ch40s-utilities. It runs a script which checks what to run (in this case, boot sound is one of those programs).  If nothing is enabled, it's pretty much the same as not having the daemon.

hey i installed this and the bootsound app shows my mp3, but when i reboot, there is no sound. also in cydia i got an update for ch40s utilities to 2.5.7 and i updated it so do i have to downgrade it for it to work because when i click onboot from ch40s utilities it shows up blank but the bootsound app works perfectly

i also chmodded the mp3 file

Oh, don't worry :) that's just a bug in ch40s-Utilities :) you can still disable it from the boot sound app :)
