I had this problem too.

To hacktivate it download official 4.1 apple firmware, open redsn0w and go to extras, and in "select IPSW" tab pick the official apple 4.1, then go to  jailbreak and untick "install cydia".

This will unlock your iphone thats on 4.3.2. :)

You need to select the 'Original Firmware' 4.2.1 from Apple to Hacktivate via redsn0w. During First step of Selection, Select this 'Original Firmware'

What's the main difference in this Base and say a custom IPSW made from Sn0wbreeze 2.9.6?
From what I am reading, it doesn't really matter as long as you have iOS 4.2.1 correct?
Will this base run faster than one I would create through Sn0wbreeze?

Or, indeed how does it differ from kikokkokok95's CFW which I've been using mostly very happily for months? Is kiko's CFW as suitable as a jailbroken base to add released / late beta redd00r .deb to? I'm on MB489B factory unlocked iPhone 3G 8GB, I don't want to destroy my working baseband with GPS!

Yes! As long as the firmware is based on 4.2.1 or 4.1, you will be fine..

Has anyone had problems installing some apps from the app store?  I get an unknown error when using itunes and I get another error when trying to install certain apps from the phone.  Something like, it will try to reinstall when attached to itunes and I can hit retry or done.

The one I know for sure that can be recreated on mine is Skype.  So does anyone have Skype installed on there Redd00r base pulled from this thread?

Cheers and thanks again.  Can't wait to see Redd00r in all its glory. :)

I can't update Skype(it says I should try on my pc) and it seems like everyone ignored the problem with slow AppStore/instagram. Any suggestions?

This firmware is definately 4.1 I checked it in tiny umbrella, the problem is you can't add anything due to the mobile substrate problems, I have tried all deb files provided and still no luck, SB settings and springtomize just crash.

There are other factors... I remember once when I restored from a huge problem, my iPhone was slow after the restore. After another restore it got much faster. The device keeps the old stuff (I think) just like how Windows keeps the old stuff when you restore (i.e. windows_old)

Isn't there a wipe option somewhere?

And after charging iPhone shows old percentage(just as before charging). The only way(I've found) to make this fine is reboot.
