D00rStand BETA
« on: January 05, 2013, 10:02:03 PM »
Information
This is a tweak I made for whited00r/redd00r with the help of a couple people (iH4CK3V3RYTh1NG on twitter, and bensge with his folder opening animations from github).   It is still very much so in beta, but I need testers to find bugs :P
Keep in mind this is the first tweak I have ever actually made that doesn't just null something :P this is using obj-c, which I only have known for about 3 weeks :P

Supported firmwares
3.1.3 has some issues which I need to work out still. Currently, the add magazine view doesn't let you type in it :/ (something to do with the keyboard being shown behind the view I think... I am working on it)

4.x I'm hoping the keyboard bug isn't in these firmwares, but you never know. This is what I need to find out ;)

5.x If you have a retina device, this will look really weird :D

Instructions
Download and install ;)
Tap the newsstand icon, and you should see a folder open :)   (make sure it isn't the one included in whited00r 6 :P )
You can then add in a "magazine" by tapping the add button, and typing in a title, and then a URL you want to be opened when it is pressed.

Removing a magazine is easy enough, just tap the edit button, and then tap the magazine you want to remove. Tap edit again to exit delete mode :)  (I will work on this more, to make it more user friendly and better stuff to remind you that you are in edit mode and have exited edit mode).

Known bugs -- READ THIS
Memory leaks galore! :D I need to go through and add in better memory management :P
Keyboard not showing up on 3.1.3 Working on fixing this...
Magazines don't save the order they were in :'(  I will fix this maybe... Yeah, I will at some point
Magazines don't line up with the shelves O.o Not sure why they don't, I will play around with the sizes a bit until I get it right

To-do
Fix needing to have at least one magazine in the newsstand (don't worry, it won't let you delete the last one)
Graphical improvements
Fix the keyboard issue on iOS3
Fix shelf to magazine alignment

Workarounds
Adding in a magazine on iOS3 is possible still, if you are really desperate to use it (or it could just be my device that has this issue of the keyboard not showing).
edit /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.bcooperizcool.newsstand.plist
add in something like
Code: [Select]
<key>MagazineTitle</key>
<string>http://somesite.plist</string>
and then save it. I wouldn't advise giving anything the same title though :P that might cause issues ;)

If you have it crash on the first run, or you can't add a magazine without it crashing, then you need to use the above workaround

Thanks to:
iH4CK3V3RYTh1NG for helping with various issues and general support :)
bensge, for having facebookfolder open source, without it, I wouldn't have been able to make the amazing animations, or figured out the container window thing anywhere as easily :)  (and for help as well with other things)
google, for having an answer to almost everything
superbeak, for the magazine image :)
SoltMeal, for the newsstand images which I took from his newsstand :P

Omg yes! Can't wait to get back on my computer to grab this.
UPDATE: I installed the deb but it crashes instantly on the forbidden "4.2.1 firmware who must not be named" What are the dependencies and what permissions?

Uhm I don't think it has permissions or dependancies :/ I would test it on 4.2.1, but I don't have a device capable of running it :(  seems odd that it would work on 3.1.3 and 5.1.1, but not the firmwares inbetween :O  does it crash you to safemode?
try adding in a magazine manually first, as listed above. It shouldn't crash without on in, but try it out and see if that fixes the crashing.

Turn device off, and back on 2 Times after the install. Works perfect for me  :)

Thanks bcooperizcool  ;D Great work

Can you add in "magazines" okay on the firmware you have? (I'm guessing 4.2.1 :P )

Is there way to use a ssh patch instead of web page to add magazine?
Exemple:var/mobile/text.pdf
You cold use this  newstand folder to add apps and use button  to open 3store to download magazine apps !it would be more eficient

Blah. Guess I need to look into why that is even more :(  I probably can get around it using shell, but I want to do it in obj-c ;)

@cad111 what do you mean ssh patch? O.o
Downloading magazine apps would make this pretty pointless ;) think of it as a bookmark folder :P

He means that where it says I have to enter a RSS Url, If it is possible to enter a path to your root, so you can put PDF or ePub or etc. in there to read. Would be pretty cool!  8)

I don't know what a ssh patch is, as ssh is for connecting to your device from another source....
