[Solved] No Whited00r 6 for iPod Touch 2G MC or PC Model?
« on: January 12, 2013, 03:36:42 PM »
UPDATE: Whited00r 7 supports iPod Touch 2G: MC and PC too.

2013-08-27 PierreP Moderator note: How to identify your iPod Touch 2G model: Settings > General > About > Model. When Apple engraves or "personalized" a device, the first letter M is replaced by a P.

Whited00r currently supports only the iPod Touch 2G MB model or PB model.

If you have an iPod Touch 2G MC Model or PC Model (PC is an MC that was engraved by Apple) sorry but we do not support them yet because those models have an incompatible bootrom. :-\ We are working on a firmware for those iPod Touch 2G MC model but it is not ready for release yet & please do not ask when as we will gladly announce it when it is ready.  ;)

Meanwhile read this thread for alternatives.

Original post:

Hello.
I want to ask why you cannot make a Whited00r version for the iPod Touch 2G MC model?

Thanks.  ;D.

Now, before anyone says he should have searched beforehand, this is asking why, not asking if there is going to be support for it.

The reason why, is that the firmware builder we use doesnt support the MC model :/ and firmware builders that do dont allow as much customization :/

The reason the firmware builder does not support the iPod 2G MC model is because Apple changed the bootrom. I really don't see why they did that; no other things were added or made better. What makes it worse, is that it was marketed in a way that made many people think it was the 3rd generation, meaning it would be better, only for users to find out after updating to iOS 4, that they don't have a 3rd generation device, and thus have lessened support and missing features. :( I just don't understand why... :(

I have Redd00r installed, you should do this as well. Redd00r runs on iOS 4.1 and 4.2.1, and therefore supports the MC model. The experience is very smooth, and many features from newer iOS versions have been either ported or enabled, and they work great! Props to the amazing developers who made it possible. The only bad thing about Redd00r is that it is still in its beta stage (where it has been for quite a bit of time, but I trust that the developers still keep it in mind) therefore many things are left out in initial installation. No worries though, as if you browse the forums a bit, you can find and install many, many things that add a lot of functionality and cool features. I recommend installing the iOS 6 theme, the new Newsstand tweak bcoopizcool recently created (great job!), the Do Not Disturb tweak, the iOS 6 Settings App edit [this may require a bit more effort, as I had to edit a lot of the code to make it work properly; I will gladly post the entire settings app if needed in this post though (although, there is a finished version somewhere in Whited00r's dropbox, which is unavailable to us, it is likely for the next update of Redd00r)], and much more. Another added perk is that iOS 4 supports more apps than 3.1.3 meaning you can retain all your current apps as well as find more supported IPAs. I really recommend it for iPod Touch MC users like me.

You could also try out the beta of D00r instead, which has more options/speed than redd00r and almost all the features mentioned above and more, but lacks reminders and a couple other things.

Re: No whited00r for iPod Touch 2G PC/MC Model? Try Redd00r or D00r!
« Reply #6 on: January 27, 2013, 10:29:53 PM »
...If you want a whited00r type thing for MC models (I'm assuming that's what you meant by PC [which is an engraved MC model]), either check out redd00r or d00r .

They are both a .deb, and give the features and then some :)  (don't install both at the same time....) ...   D00r is probably more stable and faster with more features for now, until the next redd00r update.

How to find your iPod model: look in > Settings > General > About > Model. When Apple engraves a device, the first letter M is replaced by a P. So iPod 2G PC model is in reality just a regular iPod 2G MC model that was engraved.

No, the highest firmware you can ever run is 4.2.1 :(  You can't even make apps work that require a higher firmware either.  Sorry :(

Welcome to the whited00r forum!  8)

You could try out Redd00r or Archetype because the iPod Touch MC & PC models have a different bootroom that is incompatible with whited00r.
