Settings app crashes
« on: March 21, 2013, 01:31:38 AM »
I'm on iPod touch 2G with whited00r 6.0, archytype by brian. I just added a VPN and connected it. After that, the settings app crashes. I hard rebooted twice but nothing changes. The settings app crashes whenever I open it. HELP?!

so it only crashed after changing the VPN?  Have you tried it in safemode to see if it is a substrate (I would link you to the preference loader page, but you said it was working and crashed after the VPN I think, so I don't think that would be it...).

If safemode fixes it then I will have you try downgrading the version :)   Otherwise, it is a bug with Archetype I'm guessing.(I never tested VPN)

Yeah safemode works for me and there's an extra VPN on/off option at the main page of the settings below the airplane mode option. XP you're new collection to your bugs list. XD

I am having a similar issue to this so I would like to abandon my thread and join this one. I cannot get my settings app to not crash. Going into safe mode allows me to use it correctly, however, I have tried downgrading per those instructions and nothing changed.

Are you sure you downgraded correctly?  What output did terminal give after you ran the dpkg command?

I don't recall but I am about to try again and see if maybe I did something wrong the first time. I will note the output in case is still doesn't work.

I noted before typing killall SpringBoard that the output was just a bunch of dpkg options to choose from. I could not read all of them as they scrolled by too quickly. The final outcome though is that I am just returned to the original command prompt. I have followed the instructions exactly.

That means that you didn't type the command correctly, you must type as root:
dpkg -i /path/to/thedeb.deb (replace with the path to the preference loader .deb)

I see what I did wrong. I did not type the space between the dpkg -i and the /var. My settings app is working again. I apologize for my ignorance and thank you for all your help.  :)

No worries, terminal can be a little confusing at first :)  That is why I asked for the output ;)  It told me that it didn't recognize the input you gave it, which means you were putting the command in wrong, so I could help better :)  (thank you for giving specific information on that, otherwise it could have taken a lot longer to track down the issue!)
