Haha no worries :)  Then it seems to be an issue with the location information for the 3.1.3 devices in your area unfortunately :(

Welcome to the forums :)

Can you locate anything when you are connected to wifi?  (as in does the location services work).

When you restored to whited00r, did you restore from a backup, or set up as a new device?

So maps can't locate you, but other apps can? What apps are those that do work?

I don't think a typhoon would affect wifi location because that should go by IP address :o   Glad it's fixed, maybe it was the typhoon O.o

Glad it worked for you and thanks for reporting back as it may help other users with a similar problem.

Now I have an iPhone 2G with exactly the same specifications as you wrote above: iPhone 2G Whited00r 6 (based on a customized iOS 3.1.3), baseband (General > About > Modem Firmware) 04.05.04_g, > Settings > General > Date & Time set correctly, > Settings > General > Location Services: ON and I also have the "Your location could not be determined" error in Maps.  :-\

The only difference is that the SIM reader is broken so I can't use a SIM in it. Consequently cell towers triangulation cannot be used.

When using WiFi triangulation to approximate your location (because there is no GPS chipset in this model), the iPhone 2G tries to connect to a database of known WiFi IP's but fails because Apple broke the access to that URL on iOS below iOS 4 and the iPhone 2G cannot use any iOS above 3.1.3 on which Whited00r is based but customized and tweaked.

Maybe your iPhone 2G locked on cell towers or maybe on a known Wifi's IP. Could you please use the free iTools (click on English), connect your device > click on FileSystem and paste this in iTools' navigation bar (or navigate to it): /var/root/Library/Caches/locationd/stats.plist

Now there is a neat .plist editor in iTools so you can double-click on stats.plist and copy the content and past it here. For example, on my iPhone 2G without SIM & WiFi triangulation not working:

<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
   <key>CPS-stop</key>
   <string>8/12/13 1:58 PM</string>
   <key>WPS-stop</key>
   <string>8/12/13 1:58 PM</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Compare to this one from an iPhone 3G running Whited00r 6 that locked on cell towers (CPS-fix), known WiFi IP (WPS-fix) & GPS satellites (GPS-fix + Sats-found + Sats-unique, not possible on iPhone 2G because it does not have a GPS chipset):

<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
   <key>CPS-fix</key>
   <string>6/2/13 2:27 PM</string>
   <key>CPS-stop</key>
   <string>6/2/13 2:28 PM</string>
   <key>GPS-fix</key>
   <string>6/2/13 2:32 PM</string>
   <key>Sats-found</key>
   <string>6/2/13 2:32 PM</string>
   <key>Sats-unique</key>
   <integer>6</integer>
   <key>WPS-fix</key>
   <string>6/2/13 2:27 PM</string>
   <key>WPS-stop</key>
   <string>6/2/13 2:28 PM</string>
</dict>

What do you mean hack wifi?  That very well might be the cause of the issue...  Does your friend have cellular service, or a different model iPhone as well?  (newer ones work with location better of course... sticking with the times ;) ).

You don't know how his phone determines location as there are 3 methods as I described above.  ;) Downloading the maps & determining the location are 2 different things.

And you don't say what phone model he has and which OS he is running. Jailbreaking itself has nothing to do with location on the iPhone 2G except giving a carrier locked iPhone the chance to use cellular triangulation thanks to a working SIM.

We can't help you if you don't reply to our questions or do not give any essential details, sorry!

Hi, PierreP

Welcome to the Whited00r forum!  8)  And thank you for providing the screen captures so +1 Internets for you.

That's for an iPhone 2G, right? For which iOS version if not running Whited00r?

Maps times out very fast and your stats.plist shows locks for both known WiFi IP (WPS-fix) & cell towers (CPS-fix). Did you try repeatedly to re-activate Maps by tapping on the button bottom left (arrow or cross-hair circle depending on iOS version) after every time it says "Your location could not be determined"?

Could you try with the free & compatible GPS Info! in iTunes to see if it reports anything?

He-he, thnx.

It's whited00r & 2G.
Yes, it gives no result. I've tried to restore location settings(General>Reset>Reset loc worns) by reseting them. It also gives no result, maps.app returns to it's first lunch.

GPS Info:

it shows wrong coordinates (locates me in Toronto, but I'm in Kyiv)
