I went to the download page and if I click the firmware for iPhone 3G based on iOS 4.x there isn't the link

That's because it doesn't exist, It's not developed yet.  It sounds like MattwRE is planning to make a custom iOS4 for the iPhone 3G.
Ah ok, I hope that the iOS 4.x based firmware will arrive soon, so we can download the apps which are not supported on iOS 3.x firmware (like iBooks) :P

the iOS4 based could not be really good..
iOS4 is really slow on iPhone 3G.. Anyway my idea is providing a clean firmware with some speed tweaks, but it will never be as fast as iOS3.

V4.2 Lite is great so far!  I'm getting tired of restoring though ;P  Hopefully this will be my last one for awhile.

Post this in the off-topic thread please, if I was a moderator I would move your post, but I can't. I'd love you to respond in the appropriate forum :

LOL Alright alright. Anywho...

I just installed 4.2 (without MMS) full on my iPhone 2G.

Seems VERY fast so far. Very smooth and clean.

Rebooting now to get folders and multitasking working. =)

are Fodlers and MT not working "out of the box" (after the installation without rebooting?)?
Anyway yes.. v4.2 should be fast.
It seems that the bigger problem for our "old" devices is HomeScreen wallpaper. Without it and with v4.2 the device runs really well.

i think that simplebackground slow down devices, maybe change it with the other one ?

I`m sure that Simple Background slow down your devices !
I have installed Desktop/SMS Background now and everything is fine and fast =)

Having the wallpaper will slow down animations and what not noticeably, so I have it off (in fact wallpaper isn't included in 4.2 lite) but if you use a wallpaper with a small filesize then not much lag is created, while some large wallpapers will cause a good amount of lag.

Can I add to the changelog requests?

Some notes and comments in other forums and threads instead of here makes it very hard to appreciate all the hard work you've put in. I'd happily wait a few days for a release if it came with comprehensive notes.

Obvious questions:
Has it got newer folders?
How/Why is tethering related to MMS?
Why would something as simple as MMS have any effect on battery?
As you've got an older Backgrounder to remove dependencies, what happens if we upgrade it? What will break?
And about a hundred more...

Do you sleep much?

I'll step in for poor Matt here...

1. Folders are the same it seems, Darlo770 is still testing his new 1.1  You can go get his latest alpha version if you'd like.

2. MMS and Tethering are related by the Cellular Data Network/APN
3. MMS affects battery on the original iPhone because A. it wasn't designed with it and B. Because the iPhone is trying to use that feature constantly
4. Don't upgrade Backgrounder, lol.
5. MattwRE is a machine, therefore no sleep. (Disclaimer)

I worked hard in these days to release and uplaod all firmware..
So I'm a bit bored and I only made a short changelog in this thread (first topic). And I'm sorry.. I know that Changelog is really important.

anyway:
- no.. but darlo is developing new folders
- Same CommCenter patch. Thsi patch should be the best: http://bbs.weiphone.com/read-htm-tid-792350.html
- CommCenter patch could cause battery drain because this si not a native features (not simple as editing a .plist boolean value)
- nothing. But insalling new backgrounder will install Activator and Preference Loader too (2 extra MobileSusbtrate addon.. consider that curently whited00r full uses only 4 MobileSubstrate addons, a a 50% is a lot!!)

whited00r is modded 3.1.3 (iOS 3) firmwares.

But it looks like Matt is coming out with iOS 4 based whited00r firmwares. So basically the iOS 4 based firmwares will be modded iOS 4.

Not to discourage anything but I don't think that will do very well... iOS 4 sucks even when heavily modded for speed...
iOS 3 is the way to go.. Now if SMS GV Extension would hurry up I could FINALLY downgrade...
