Ipod Touch 1G - "firmware not compatible"
« on: July 06, 2013, 11:19:53 PM »
Getting "firmware not compatible"  when I try to shift+restore the iPodTouch1G_WD6.ipsw file.

Yes IPoD is in Recovery mode
Yes I have looked at other topics and unsuccessfully tried their solutions
Ive tried downloading the file multiple times from different mirrors
Restarted
Tried different USB Ports

my goal is to try "Puzzles and Dragons" but may not be possible on my old device, figured this was my best chance.

thanks

hmm, i've never experienced that error with whited00r. have you used ireb to put your iPod into PWND DFU? or did you just manually put it into dfu/recovery mode? does your computer recognize it as a apple device software update file? a .ispw? look at the picture the file should look like this. make sure to follow install instructions clearly. Keep in mind, Whited00r is not actually iOS 6, but a modified iOS 3 and cannot run apps not designed for ios 3. the only way you could try Puzzles and Dragons is if it is on the App Time Machine
Windows 8~~OSX 10.10 Yosemite~~Ubuntu 13.04
iPhone 5~~iPhone 4~~iPhone 3gs~~iPhone 2G
iPod Touch 5G~~iPod Touch 3G~iPod Touch 2G(MB,MC)

Welcome to the forums :)

When you downloaded the firmware, what was the file name?  Was it a .zip that you renamed into a .ipsw?

@theguitar

I put it into DFU manually
the file icon matches the one I have

@bcooperizcool

the file was named iPodTouch1G_WD6.ipsw in the zip folder and I extracted it to my computer, I did not rename it.

Does your iPod have volume buttons on the side?

yes

Then it isn't an iPod touch 1G ;)

When you plug it into iTunes, what does it say it is?  (if it is still recognized in iTunes anyway, not in recovery/DFU mode).

Alright, that's an iPod touch 2G then.

Can you look at the back for me and see if the model number starts with MB or PB?  If it does, you can still use whited00r now.  Otherwise, you have to wait and hope that support for it is released in the next whited00r version :)

The IPod "IPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604)

The IPod "IPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604)

That can be solved easily by using iReb v5 to put the device into PWNED DFU mode.  Simply open it up with the device connected, select iPod touch 2G (non-MC model of course, right? ), and then follow the instructions on screen. When it finishes putting your device in PWNED DFU mode, you can then restore to the .ipsw for the iPod touch 2G.

and the iPhone2G_Normal_WD6.ipsw file gives the same firmware incompatible error

Of course it would, unless you tried restoring it to an iPhone 2G, which I wasn't giving instructions for ;)  The name says iPhone in it ;)
