Title: Whatsapp 2.8.4 won't sync contacts
Post by: lacasuela on March 29, 2014, 11:54:59 AM
hi I just installed whited00r 7.1 and i have experiencing the same issues with contacts and whatsapp that i had with whited00r 7.0

So like whited00r 7 whatsapp version in TimeApp Machine dont work, it erase my contacts any time i installed. I find this version WhatsAppMessenger-08101284734.ipa in the web that dont erase contacts and it works with the previous version 7.0, after applying the patch v3 and reinstalling the app.

Right now i have my contacts with v7.1 and the version i found of whatsapp 2.8.4, this version can see my contact list but it won't recognize them as whatsapp contacts..

Can you give me somme answer ?

thanks for your work

Have you installed the ota patch from the Cydia repo put in by default as of whited00r 7.1 of repo.whited00r.com? (Not the full URL, but enough to recognize it in Cydia).

You shouldn't have installed the patch v3 from repod00r on whited00r 7.1 though! :o

Hi i'm sorry for my delay

#sir roven : yes i have a 2.8.4 version thats actually works.. i can send it to you if you like (two versions.. english and french)

# Bruan : I already installed the OTA update and the other one for the spotlight search override..

Right now :
1- i have my contacts sync with google,
2- whatsapp can see these contacts but it won't recognize them as whatsapp contacts

I realize that only if i added a contact as favorite from a discussion the app recognize them as a whatsapp contact and it can download the name and the avatar

Wait, it doesn't erase contacts on device, but rather in the app? :o  I thought it was actual on-device contacts, not the contacts hosted in the app itself!  Try syncing whatsapp in safemode to the device, which you can enter by running this command in terminal:
Code: [Select]
killall -SEGV SpringBoard

#Bruan :  yes the contacts are still in the phone. Wwhatsapp have access to them (i can see them inside the app) the problem is that the app dont recognize them as whatsapp contacts..

i'll try your method but it don't work.. this night, at home i'm going to reinstall the app and sync the contacts in safe-mode
i'll keep you in touch

I'd uninstall the app
Go into safe mode
Install the app
check.. nothing
Reboot the device... and still the same..

I have my contacts
Whatsapp see my contacts
but it won't recognized

If the app itself doesn't recognize the contacts, it could very well be that the API has changed in the newer versions of the app as well as online, and it no longer detects contacts the same way :(

What if you add in contacts manually into WhatsApp, does it work then?

That's weird it won't recognize the contacts from the actual app on the device, perhaps it is a daemon that is disabled that helps speed up the system more, but slows down contact loading in the phone app :o  I wouldn't think that could interfere though!

Do the contacts save in the whatsapp app if you save them from there?

#BRUAN yes, if i save a contact in the app.. the modification appears in the contact.app
It worked perfectly in WD7 with patch v3,
i'll try some daemons..

I'll send you the app, same for #Sir oven

I have no clue why WhatsApp wouldn't recognize contacts from the device contacts, but does when put in manually into WhatsApp. It really could be a simple API issue, or a result of that daemon being disabled.

I don't have the laptop I use for making whited00r stuff powered on right now, but I can give you the basic code to try and enable the daemon :)
Code: [Select]
su
alpine
launchctl load -w $daemon_base/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
reboot

Pay attention to the launchctl command and what it outputs! If it outputs nothing, that is good!

#bruan : It give me this issue :
launchctl: Couldn't stat("/com.apple.AddressBook.plist"): No such file or directory
nothing found to load..

I tried twice

Oh I'm sorry, I missed out on changing the variable in the code I grabbed!
It should be
Code: [Select]
su
alpine
launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
reboot

Mates: it gives me the following output.

Com.apple.AddressBook: Already loaded

Note: This outcome is after executing the refined launchctl code mentioned by #bruan

Unfortunately still contacts app is getting crashed 😔

Crashing is a different issue than not syncing!  Did you restore from a backup when you set up the device in iTunes? Or manually put back information like contacts via a tool like iTools or iFunBox?

It is in English, just get it from the App Time Machine ;)

Blast, then I don't know why it wouldn't sync :(  That's the daemon that I was talking about that could possibly break the syncing, but aside from that I don't know, as the permissions also seem right.  Can you add or change contact information in the actual contacts app, and then reboot and it still be changed?
