Title: iOS6 - Apple Remote Shut Down
Post by: JustinCase on August 16, 2012, 01:52:03 AM
I had the beta version of iOS 6 installed and Apple remotely shut down my phone. I was greeted with a nice "You are not registered under the Apple Dev program and this device is not registered to use this beta software" I couldn't downgrade and I put my device in recovery mode and took it to apple. They exchanged it for free however you may not be so lucky. This is a WARNING!!!!

What beta were you using? When new betas come out apple disables the old ones soon after..

If Apple can shut down an iDevice, Imagine what a hacker could do... Send a sms... Send Email...

Really? Surely with the device in DFU it wouldn't matter what was installed. Unless Apple modifies the ramdisk in some way?

Ramdisk? it gets formatted when you Downgrade/Restore Your iPod... i think u mean the iBSS/iBoot but you cant upgrade that..

Sorry, mixed those up :P Still, they shouldn't completely brick the device, I'll complain to them ;)

Of course, He was running an iOS 6 beta. BETA.

Beta iOS versions are (intended) for app developers. When non-developers install beta iOS versions, all sorts of problems happen.
