Guys, if you need anything from iOS 5, PM me. I've got mine semi-tethered and can easily SSH files to my computer.

Man, I wish I had iFaith instead of redsn0w :D The only SHSH I have on my iPhone 4, which I got because my 3G got drowned, is 4.3.5 and 5.0.1 :)

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ or %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\

Justin, there's an easy way to get this working. You evidently got TinyUmbrella to change your hosts file.

1. Launch TinyUmbrella
2. Go to advanced and tick off "Change hosts to Cydia"
3. Find your hosts file (Mac: /etc, idk about windows :P google)
4. Erase the line, or anything that is added
5. Save the file
6. Restore in iTunes

Let me know if this worked!

No u can't use dolphin because you cannot browse the web when in that state. Im guessing that Cydia would still e not functional in semi tethered mode.

Anyway thanks or posting this :D
Actually, you can use any app that runs on stock iOS firmware except for mail and safari. Dolphin works, I tried it ;)

No prob :)

Do you want to jailbreak your iDevice running iOS 5, but you're scared of the "tethered boot loop?" Well, I've got some great news for you! SemiTether allows you to run your stock apps (unfortunately, safari doesn't work yet) after you restart from a tethered jailbreak!

Read this article to get SemiTethered:

All credit goes to Jeff Benjamin from iDownloadBlog and the creator of this tweak.

P.S: You can use Dolphin Browser instead of Safari

Hope it helps!

Update: I suppose you guys know that this won't work with A5 devices, right?

Yeah, sorry, I meant the fact that Cydia doesn't work when you boot without using redsn0w. Of course, I know that it's injected by l1merain and all that stuff. I just didn't want to write a long post.

why do you want to tether jailbreak your iphone and then delete cydia?

and installous is no mobilesubstrate, it is an app, and some parts of are actually bash, so commandline stuff. i think that won't affect anything. you don't even have to respring after you install appsync

btw, i don't think you can do an untethered boot with a tethered jailbreak when there are no mobilesubstrates installed, because after a clean restore and clean jailbreak(where are obviously no substrates) you canot boot without a program

I'm not so sure, because AppSync does do something with the app signing mechanism... it's not mobilesubstrate, but they do something with the core files.

You CAN boot up when you installed tethered cydia, it just won't work.

I just wanna know tho, if installous will affect the boot up.

iPA God seems to be paid...

Have you tried reinstalling?

Hey guys, I read that if I tethered jailbreak my iPhone and don't install any mobilesubstrate tweaks, it will normally boot and I'll be able to delete Cydia with CyDelete.

So here's my question: can I install installous and still do untethered?

Too bad I don't have shsh blobs =/

It depends on how many cycles (how many times you let it go below 50%) you've got in your battery. Batteries weaken over time and the most effective way is to buy a new one :3. First of all, don't background apps if you necessarily don't have to. It drains a lot of battery life (that's why all android devices need a larger battery and sometimes don't even match the iPhone's power).  Next, don't install many mobilesubstrate tweaks, they could be the ones which drain your battery life so fast.

And please, do NOT install Winterboard. It drains a lot of battery. Try bcooper's wintersled instead. It works quite well.
