Development Update

You can now enter commands with your voice when using the web client in Google Chrome, but not on any other browsers.

I'm planning to find a way to use Google's speech recognition service in an iPhone app, which would probably be the easiest way of getting it to listen to you like Siri would.

The only downside to this is that Google's speech service is not yet publicly open to developers and can also change at any time, breaking speech-recognition in an app just like that.

Fingers crossed...

Another Development Update

More good news, Google also has an easy text-to-speech service which can easily be integrated in an iPhone app so you can have it speak a reply back to you like Siri does. I have yet to figure out speech-to-text yet.

English is the best!
Universal, I suggest, It would accept all accents not only British!
Thank's TastyCorn for such a wonderful concept & making it happen! :)

Development Update #2

Okay, some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that everything I have done so far works on the device (iPhone 3G running whited00r iOS 4-based). Yes I know people want this on 3.1.3 and I am targeting the build for 3.1.3 with no errors (yet).

The bad news is that some of the interface animations are so slow they don't even show up. Here's hoping I can resolve that...

Are you saying the animations are slow because of the firmware or the device. Or both

The device hardware is the main cause of slow animations because of the limited processing power and not enough memory needed to run an animation-heavy UI like Siri.

Well its going to be a big problem right.

Actually I have a feeling that it can be fixed to enough of an extent to provide a pleasant user experience, but I can't guarantee anything yet. I will try to sort this out when I get back to work on it.

Even If I can't fix it by tomorrow, would everyone still be interested in the video I said I would upload?
Yes. I would love to see the video.

@iShubham I'm cool with people posting here as long as it stays relevant to this project and their questions aren't answered in a future FAQ post. If someone has commentary or a suggestion to make I'd like to hear it because you never know when a good idea will come along.

Yep,if they have any ideas and suggestion, then they will PM you,ill edit my reply, and your and my last reply will be deleted.
Actully whited00r even dont allow people to REVEAL their projects, until they have a testable download of their project. This is our policy.
But we allowed you many days.So now on only you will post here, and other replies will be deleted. You will also post ONLY DEVELOPMENT UPDATES (if you wish)
Ill pm the deleted replies to you,if there are any..

Edit : Its not like we dont like you project,or we hate you,but we dont want people to get into it,before it completes development stages.Of course, people have their thoughts, and they need to post, but first we need something testable,so we can say that,TastyCorn's siri clone is best, and then we can also suggest it to people,or even matt can add it into firmware.
But first you need to release something,or at least Give something to other mods,so they can test it.
I think now you will have no objection over my decision.

I appreciate that you have allowed this topic to stay open for so long without me allowing external testing, and am very thankful for the support I have received for this project so far. While I do believe that there is credible evidence to support the existence of this project and my dedication to it (I've been writing here extensively for nearly 2 months!), I accept your decision.

Yes ofcourse,we also appreciate you for your work. But you know that no1 can cross their own policies. So we also cannot.
So this will be our decision (not of only me,but others too)
Dont feel like we dont support you,you can ask for our help anytime. We are still with you and so are all other members here.
We are waiting.

Hi There will the developer make a version for the ipod touches without mikes because it would still be cool to enter in your question and the siri can reply instantly insted of voice control which is not possible on my iPod Touch 2g

Great Job TastyCorn!

I like your attention to detail with this project. Something about you reminds me of Darlo :) - don't know what it is though. ha

Only issue I think people will have is that they will have to run it off our own "server". If that could be overcome somewhere down the line by hosting this on a CDN hands down it will be crowned the best.

To be totally honest, I know that Nobita is going crazy with adding features, but I think people would appreciate a very nice replica of what siri really is and thats what I think you will do well :)

Keep up the great work mate.  ;)

Airplane mode and wifi??
Title: Re: Bringing Siri-like functionality to older iDevices

My battery is screwed up big time because the phone is 2.5 years old and I've used it a lot, so to prolong the lifespan it's on airplane mode most of the time. Try it on your own device, just turn airplane mode on and turn wi-fi on after that.

Airplane mode disables wifi...

It doesn't if you turn wifi on after turning airplane mode on. (this is an iPhone 3G remember so I don't know if this is different for other devices, but it also works on my iPhone 4 5.0.1.)
