Title: [Broken] Redd00r iOS 4.1 Pre-Jailbroken Base Firmware - Archive
Post by: Soltmeal on June 24, 2012, 04:11:31 AM
PierreP Moderator note 2013-07-30 I am locking & archiving this old thread because:

1- The firmware download link is broken.  :-\

2-
...This is outdated and should not be used until the update due to the horrendous amount of bugs in it and instability (it uses an outdated and buggy set of some tools I made).

...this base pre-jailbroken firmware caused a mess of issues for people who used it :(

*****

Original post:

This is not Redd00r itself! It is a pre-jailbroken custom version of iOS 4.1.
nor is it required to get Redd00r on an iPhone 3G it simply makes it easier to get Redd00r on your 3G, since it is prejailbroken. Once installed, you must manually install Redd00r for iPhone 3G (see below).

You will need to install the real Redd00r tweak on top of this once installed.

This custom iOS 4.1 firmware is faster than Apple's/iTunes stock iOS 4.1.  :)

***************

PierreP edit: It will show as iOS 4.3.2 in > Settings > General > About > and elsewhere because it includes an iOS version faker.

Real iOS 4.3.2 cannot be installed on iPhone 3G as the most recent iOS it can handle is 4.2.1 and it will not enable you to run any iTunes apps that requires iOS 4.2.1 and up because the ARMv6 CPU of the 3G cannot understand the instructions sets of newer devices with the ARMv7 CPU and up. Sorry!

f0recast is a simple free standalone tool to instantly find essential iPhone info including Bootloader version and baseband. Works on Mac & Windows. Download the free f0recast & iREB tools here: http://ih8sn0w.com/ (http://ih8sn0w.com/)

I just connected my iPhone 3G to my computer with iTunes closed, started the small standalone (means no install required) f0recast and it gave me all the essential info about the iPhone:

(http://vaiofseries.com/whited00r/f0rcast_My_iPhone_3G_iOS_4_1_Pre-Jailbroken_Soltmeal_PierreP.jpg)  (http://vaiofseries.com/whited00r/f0rcast_My_iPhone_3G_Info_PierreP.jpg)

Soltmeal's pre-jaibroken iOS 4.1 works fine, I installed it myself on iPhone 3G that was running stock iTunes downloaded iOS 4.2.1 locked & jailed as a stepping stone to install easily Whited00r 6 Unlocked version because it is faster than iOS 4.1 + Redd00r IMO. After trying to install WD 6 on that stock in jail & AT&T carrier locked iOS 4.2.1, I was getting iTunes error 1604. My successful workaround is:

1- Stock iOS 4.2.1 downloaded & installed by iTunes, disconnect the iPhone 3G from the computer while it was booting for the first time so not to be messed up by iTunes, reboot.

2- I used iREB on my Windows PC to put the iPhone 3G in DFU Mode then installed Soltmeal's pre-jaibroken iOS 4.1, disconnected iPhone from the computer, reboot.

3- Downloaded the Whited00r 6 Unlocked version, un-zipped it to get the .ipsw file inside, installed it like the WD tutorial says and disconnected the iPhone from the computer while it was booting for the first time so not to be messed up by iTunes and turned off and back on two times as recommended in the tutorial.

4- Turn off the iPhone 3G, insert my SIM, connect to iTunes and set it up as New as recommended in the whited00r Tutorial - Installation (http://www.whited00r.com/installation.php)

My iPhone 3G now runs smoothly & fluidly on Whited00r 6.  :D

This is a prejailbroken iOS 4.1 ipsw for iPhone 3G, making it easier to install Redd00r once it comes out (instead of having to jailbreak your device  yourself), it is NOT REDD00R.
Its pre-jailbroken and includes all the features of Whited00r 4.4.1. So instead of downloading normal iOS 4.2.1 (which is slower than this base) and jailbreaking it yourself, you can download and restore to this and be ahead of the game.

Here are some bonus features you get with this base which isn't in normal iOS 4.1:

GameCenter
Multitasking
Wallpaper
Cydia
plus some more stuff..

After Install, you must do the following to install Redd00r BETA (if you want it):
1. Add the repo:(click here to view the repo address) (http://adf.ly/A8ZXO)
2. Install the package: Redd00r
3. After your device reboots, the setup app should open. Don't hit the home button if the screen is black (the app is loading)
4. Run through the setup app, choose your settings. Note it may take up to 10 MINS to configure your device IF YOU CHOOSE TO REMOVE RETINA IMAGES. It will take about 10 seconds if you don't.
5. Once you respiring, you are done! You can change your settings any time in settings.

PLEASE LOOK HERE for support on redd00r and more information (use this topic for firmware-related issues)
http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php?topic=6007.0 (http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php?topic=6007.0)

This isn't hacktivated or unlocked. If you have an unlock, you need to manually hacktivate it.

I'm on 4.3.2 also after downloading from the 1st google link. Even Cydia states it as 4.3.2, off to find some apps that only work on 4.3 or higher to check it out!

I can't install 4.3+ apps, it has however allowed me to get the app on the springboard and does starts to install but gets 3/4 way through and says unable to download app, connect to itunes to install.

I am having a issue with the Mobile Substrate update through Cydia, it starts to unpack and then hard resets. So unable to download anything now through Cydia.

I too installed this software to install redd00r but then redd00r couldn't be installed via cydia because it said i needed to be an iPod touch 2g, but then i went to the beta post in the forums and applepie said that installing redd00r has a known bricking effect on 3g's and they're trying to fix it... Anyone else that couldn't install redd00r? AND ALSO wtf I am on ios 4.3.2, i used the google link, I tried to install minecraft PE(requires 4.3) but it doesn't complete installation. MAYBE THAT WHY I CANT INSTALL REDD00R due to the ios 4.3.2?  did anyone actually install this and is on 4.2.1?

It is faked iOS 4.3.2 it is still a base of 4.2.1. For those of you getting errors ie. 1015 use red snow or iReb to put your device in a pwnd dfu mode to install.

I have the same question....my brother's iPhone 3G running whited00r based iOS 4 by Soltmeal downloaded from here with name "iPhone1,2_whited00r_iOS4.ipsw" came with two things "iFunBox.exe" and "mobilesubstrate_0.9.3367.deb"
the mobilesubstrate 0.9.3367 version the compatible one with this ipsw maybe that's why i read someppl having problem with mobilesubstrate if it's the same  release

Hi,

you wrote that this is faster then stock 421, how did you make it faster?

Also is it possible to disable multitasking as i think it will slow the thing down and 3g is very slow even without it.

I've restored to this custom ipsw on my iphone 3g but since i dont have a sim card holder i can't activate it.
Someone said to try Redsn0w to hacktivate, but redsn0w wont work, the "select ipsw" option in redsn0w comes up as "that IPSW is not supported".
On "custom IPSW" option the error says "sorry, only firmware 4.2.1 is supported for iphone 3g".

Can please someone tell me how to active my iphone 3g? :(

*EDIT*

Nevermind, i took the back off the iphone and held the sim card in place to activate it :D

Wow. I get an error installing it... Depends on iOS 4.2.1 or lower... That is one downside to this amazing firmware.

EDIT: Crap, I think I put this in the wrong topic... It is about the firmware kinda, but I don't think it belongs here. Sorry about that.

Oh I put it in var/mobile and I used iFile to do the installer. I find that much easier imo.

EDIT: Wow, I'm an idiot. I forgot to respring LOL. Yeah I got the app and it is lightning fast! The only thing is that it is missing the icon, but that isn't a biggy.

Oh thats because I made it dependent on ios4.2.1 or lower and the firmware is faked to be 4.3.2

It is doing more than faking LOL! This is some firmware man! Also I found an easy ass way to fix the blank icon. I went into iFile to /var/stash/applications/WDNewstand and in the info.plist I edited the following lines...
Code: [Select]
<key>CFBundleIconFiles</key>
<array>
      <string>icon copy.png</string>
      <string>icon.png</string>

to this...

What? You mean it's not doing more than faking? It let me use an iOS 4.3 application and the app store looks and feels like the iOS 4.3 version.

No but it knows that I have installed this app in my account and instead of saying free, it says install and I only have to click one button to let the download start. iOS 4.2.1 didn't have that to my knowledge.

Yep, with this file http://apt.saurik.com/debs/mobilesubstrate_0.9.3367+6.g629fcfa_iphoneos-arm.deb we can install mobile substrate it's not the last version but i don't think this is very important

So I installed this version of mobile substrate but my device still does not have substrate safe mode. The thing is that when I try to install substrate safe mode from Cydia it forces me to update mobile substrate as well.

Any solutions?

anyone else having slow apps that require wifi on this? eg app store takes ages to search and load the specific app page from the search when selected. Also instagram is SLOOOOOW and wont even download the images, says "cannot load image tap to try again" for each image. anyone else with this problem? might revert to 4.2.1 normal. Minecraft dont work so 4.3 apps are of no use to me. But can anyone else confirm this wifi issue( wifi speed is ok because downloading from cydia and other downlaoding apps is at optimum speed)

EDIT: let me rephrase that... Apps that retrieve and present Information from the Internet are slow at that or don't do it. Eg when you search in safari and the Google predictions show up. That takes ages and freezes safari for about 10 seconds while trying to retrieve and present the suggestions. Same with instagram and app store

There is a Deb file on the first page that you can install which is a suitable Mobile Substrate for this version. Once this is installed try again.

Hello all,

Did anyone have this error pop up after installing this new .ipsw?

I tried to repair it by reinstalling iTunes (I erased it thoroughly with Terminal) and repairing disk permissions but then I got this error:

I tried everything I could think of:
- Installing whited00r, regular 3.13, regular 4.2.1 even restoring trough iTunes.
- Installing in DFU and Recovery mode.
- Using old iTunes (9.x.x)
- Rebooting iPhone and OSX many times.
- Authorizing/Deauthorizing iTunes.

Result is always the same: Firmware installs OK but the device can not connect with iTunes for final set up.

I'd really appreciate any kind of advice.

Cheers.

Soltmeal,

Have you plans up your sleeve for future update which require this 4.1 cfw? Is there any issue other than downloading the additional dependencies for a custom or stock 4.2.1 base?

Is testing of Redd00r on this base, or are there testers using this base, stock and other CFW which are all having the same issues when installing Redd00r deb?

Just after some info...

I did. Recovery mode won't work.

Anyhow, it's definitely a problem with iTunes on this particular machine.

I plugged the iPhone into another computer (Win) and it activated the firmware (from this topic) without a problem.

I deleted everything with 'iTunes' in the name and installed a fresh version but it still won't work.

I had this problem too.

To hacktivate it download official 4.1 apple firmware, open redsn0w and go to extras, and in "select IPSW" tab pick the official apple 4.1, then go to  jailbreak and untick "install cydia".

This will unlock your iphone thats on 4.3.2. :)

What's the main difference in this Base and say a custom IPSW made from Sn0wbreeze 2.9.6?
From what I am reading, it doesn't really matter as long as you have iOS 4.2.1 correct?
Will this base run faster than one I would create through Sn0wbreeze?

The one I know for sure that can be recreated on mine is Skype.  So does anyone have Skype installed on there Redd00r base pulled from this thread?

It will affect the whole system ;) Apps can decide what to do based on the firmware that they detect the device is on, along with tweaks.  So this will mess things up a little there probably, as well as restoring in itunes may have issues :/

Looks like Mobile substrate in Cydia has been updated for this Redd00r Base on IOS 4.1 Good news. :D

Shows as a Change to update for those on 4.2.1 but cannot be updated due to the dependencies set for the Redd00r faked 4.3.1..

:) Funny thing though is it is not a separate one, but the original Mobile Substrate has been updated.

I had it already installed on 4.2.1 but now shows as an update in Cydia due to the changes made to it. But, cannot be updated due to the changed dependencies which states it needs 4.3.1 which would now mean that any user on 4.2.1 that's wants to download sbsettings or springtomizer can't. ?  :(

This happened after I used a pwned DFU mode in iReb. But i will try it with redsn0w.
EDIT:And another: I put it in DFU mode myself, and then restored, but still did not work. Now it it stuck at my custom recovery screen, so I believe that part of the redd00r base has installed and then there is still a part of my jailbroken 4.2.1 still left. Is there any way I can wipe the whole drive on the iPhone? Or is going to be stuck like that forever?

Red00r base (IOS 4.1)
if you have an IOS on your iphone 4.2.1 or 3.1.3 IOS
1 - install on your iphone the original IOS 4.1
2 - Jailbreak
3 - Restore the Redd00r Base Firmware (http://adf.ly/A2nSS)

I take it it's this IOS4.1 Redd00r base you have installed.

You will need to add applepie's repo http://applepie.bplaced.net/repo to Cydia, then try again to install whatever it is your installing and it should automatically install the Mobile Substrate added to his repo for this specific firmware.

I added this base again to my iphone today and the mobile substrate is working.

Redd00r is a .deb file that can be installed onto either 4.1 or 4.2.1

Soltmeal has released this 4.1 base due to the speeds of the 4.1 and has less lag on the native wallpaper and that it has been configured  ready for the Redd00r .deb file to be installed directly on too when it is released through appliepie's repo.

Like I said, I've tried countless attempts at fixing this. I don't really know what happened, but the install stopped part way with error 14 from iTunes.  Then it went into a recovery boot-loop. When I try to fix the recovery boot loop, nothing happens. When I try to kick it out of recovery, it just goes back. Right now, my computer won't even recognize my iPhone, as it detects it as a malfunctioning USB device (Which it is.) But it cannot find drivers at all, even though I have connected my iPhone to my computer before. So, if I try to restore to official, which I tried once, iTunes cannot detect my device at all. But, my theory is that in some part of the installation, a part of the redd00r base was installed, and my cfw I had before that was left there, and I can be somewhat sure of this because it recovery boot-loops into my custom recovery screen. It would be helpful If you posted support here: http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php?topic=6183.0
Because there are posts on this forums everyday and I don't know if it is to help the bricked devices or just as question.

It will only work for some apps.  The systemversion. Plist is altered so it only appears to be 4.3. When it goes to install, slight differences between 4.1 and 4 3 stop the process.

Google Chrome is not gonna run on anything less than a 3GS, not that it means anything… Safari has a better GUI. And more speed.

That is not true. I have read that post everyone is talking about and it only says that Safari has Nitro (or whatever it is) which makes the scrolling more snappy. That does not mean that safari is faster. I use dolphin browser and I really like it for it's speed, but it's scrolling is not as snappy. That is the same as Chrome.

Safari has the Nitro JavaScript engine (ios4.3 or newer), allowing pages to render faster. However, 3rd party browsers use UIWebViews. These do not have access to the nitro engine...

That is exactly what I meant LOL. What that nitro engine does is make the pages snappier, but even to my experience, I think Chrome is faster on the iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.0.1.

That really depends on a lot of things like what the site is, the internet connection, the browser. I just think the stock Safari has what any other really good browser has to offer except for that nitro engine thing LOL.

Is'nt there a 4.2.1 red00r base? As i would like my iPhone to be 4.2.1 not 4.1 if not should i just go ahead installing original stock 4.2.1 and install red00r on top of that?
But won't i be missing the added features etc that's included in this red00r base or will it come with the Red00r?

Any help would be much appreciated, cheers :)

Then, I wanted to upgrade to the redd00r and started by trying to install the prejailbroken 4.1 ipsw, as instructed on the website....BUT, when I went to manually load it in iTunes using the Shift+Restore button, it stopped in the process and I received an error code: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1604)."

I then went online and found a site "http://www.saurik.com/id/12" that instructed me to go into DFU mode and try restoring again, in which I did, but then I got the exact code, but with the number (1600) this time.

I was stuck guys and I'm trying, but can't seem to get my phone out of recovery mode at this point.

So, I followed the instructions from http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php?topic=5532.0 and have installed the prejailbroken 4.1. But, it is in a state, which looks like recovery...but it's prompting me in different languages to "slide for emergency".

iTunes is also telling me that there isn't a SIM card installed."

I was stuck at this state for a while and I took it in to a developer friend here locally and he said some of the files were corrupt and fixed them...then vualla, the SIM card read from T-Mobile....BUT, the phone is lagging and slow.

Is anybody experiencing this?

just do the jailbreak again with other version of redsn0w and verify the ipsw is the correct, the redd00r base is 4.1

It works just like any other custom firmware. Just use iReb to get into Pwned DFU and then do the Shift+Restore in iTunes. Good luck!!

LOL. So many people have asked that in this thread... Just download the stock iOS 4.1 ipsw from http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Then download Redsn0w from
http://www.iphoneleaks.net/2012/06/download-redsn0w-0-9-12b2-brings-new-injection-feature/
And in Redsn0w point to the stock iOS 4.1 ipsw and Jailbreak but don't install Cydia.

Hy there sorry if its a double post but from my search only found one that never ansewerd to my problem.

After i install the firmware and want to unlock it with redsn0w, i get the fallowing error(problem):

I've restored to this custom ipsw on my iphone 3g but since i dont have a sim card holder i can't activate it.
Someone said to try Redsn0w to hacktivate, but redsn0w wont work, the "select ipsw" option in redsn0w comes up as "that IPSW is not supported".
On "custom IPSW" option the error says "sorry, only firmware 4.2.1 is supported for iphone 3g".

Can please someone tell me how to active my iphone 3g?

EDITED:
Finaly fixed the problem by using the original firmare for iphone 3g posted here http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php?topic=6171.0 (http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php?topic=6171.0) with redsn0w so i can jailbreak, but i keept the Redd00r Base Firmware that i restored with ITunes. Strange that the screen is flickering sometimes, hope after i install red00r it will be fixed.

EDIT:
After succesfuly installing red00r from http://applepie.bplaced.net/repo ,i still have screen problems, like screen flickering(tearing) when slide to left up down, everywhere eve in cydia.
If i did something wrong , i am open to suggestion.

Hi

I installed the base firmware from here and then redd00r and apps run well but safari seems to be incredibly slow, pretty much unusably slow even on wifi is this a general ios 4 on 3g issue ?

I'm really pleased I can now run tapatalk but safari is pretty unusable for me - I know it will be slower than whited00r - I once upgraded to 4.1 stock but don't remember safari being unusable.

Is it still slow even without redd00r installed?

I did use base firmware from here then redd00r on my iphone 3g 8gb, I was finding safari unusable, for example 10 + seconds to load anything - this was on Wifi or 3g. (even simple like search for bbc) so I just re-wiped and applied stock 4.2.1 it is much quicker.

Anything that used safari was unusable, appstore searching for apps was ok but detail page slow, twitter ok but weblinks slow.

~ I'm not hactivated on either test

I will try redd00r again on top of this as everything else seemed a lot quicker, I'm wondering if redd00r base firmware had some tcp tweaks applied as I previously found they made everything worse (back on ios3.1.3).

I cannot restore for some reasons!!!!!

I tried putting my iPhone 3g into Pwned DFU Mode via using iReb it shows me error or something showing this "itunnel.exe" not responding for some reason I dont know.

Then I tried using Redsn0w to put my phone into Pwned DFU Mode. I was successful in that case.

But When ever I go on iTunes to restore my Phone it gives me an error of 1600. If some can help in this situation please do so. cause i really want this to work.

I tried the other way as well while I jailbreak my phone through redsn0w. Then I added the source. When I add it and I try to install redd00r it says that I need mobile substrate and preference loader. I tried to install mobile substrate but it says that I need 4.3.2 in order to install it. :(

Please I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First I want to thank you for your great work! This Version runs really fast!

but... does anybody know why animations on my iPhone 3g are flickering, after I updated to this base FW?
It becomes pretty noticeable, when I switch to spotlight-search. The icons partly vanish behind horizontal black lines and the keyboard is flickering too.
Did a Jailbreak with "redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc16".

Any help would be much appreciated, cheers :)

EDIT: umm, is this FW based on 4.2.1 ?

as long as you install red00r base and you DO NOT update cydia (Press Ignore Temp) you can install red00r without issues. Then after red00r is installed then update cydia and all is well

Hello,
I have a question and any help is greatly appreciated!

I have:
-iPhone 3G
-Firmware 4.2.1
-Modem Firmware 5.13.04
-unlock with ultrasn0w
-broken power button

I would like to restore to the custom 4.1-firmware of this thread, how do I proceed?
Do I just take the DFU-IPSW option in the newest redsn0w and restore to this fw, then unlock with ultrasn0w?
Or do I need to do more than this?

Thanks a lot guys!
Really nice product btw (redd00r)

did you check your host file for any sign of gs.apple.com
if there is one put a # in front of it

if it says access denied open notepad as admin and try again.
the host file is located at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc  C is your primary harddisk.
again open it with notepad.

If you are on iTunes 10.7, i'm pretty sure there's an issue with that and downgrading, as it's been mentioned by many people on many different forums. Anything under 10.6.3.25 works fine for me.

Hi Thebiocity,

The hostfile is empty, maybe it is the version of itunes like aimout21 states. I will check this later today.

hello softmeal, all,

I did a full re-install from a stock 4.2.1 like explained here: http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php?topic=6007.0 but it's quite slow, I wonder if it's because I did not used the redd00r base firmware...

but when I restored this base firmware yesterday, the iphone 3G was completely locked. yes I know:

This isn't hactivated or unlocked. If you have an unlock, you need to manually hacktivate it

it is strange because if the base firmware is pre-jailbroken with cydia installed, I should be able to run cydia and do ultrasn0w myself, no ?

I installed it with success, after some troubles I got to do it with:

iREB r4
iTunes 10.6.35
p.ipsw (the one on the first page)
Hackativated with redsn0w 0.9.11b4  [un-checked everything except battery percentage]
With [selected stock ipsw 4.1 from apple ]
//yet this is quite redundant but, I prefer to do so in order to make it crystal clear

Everything went fine as I got the iphone with cydia and very fast!

However, I don't have wifi, and couldn't install anything [.deb] with ifunbox
[those files were placed in in "var\root\Media\Cydia\AutoInstall" ]

I turned the phone off then, on, and all the files were still there...
and nothing were installed.

What Should I do?

"... unable to jailbreak this firmware" - Errr... read post #1 ::) , it is already jailbroken my friend.  ;) It is a iOS 4.1 prejailbroken but fakes it is iOS 4.3.2 in > Settings > About. BTW I just added some screen captures to that post

...This is a prejailbroken iOS 4.1 ipsw for iPhone 3g, making it easier to install Redd00r once it comes out (instead of having to jailbreak yourself), it is NOT REDD00R.

It works, I installed it myself on iPhone 3G that was running stock iTunes downloaded iOS 4.2.1 locked & jailed as a first step to after that install whited00r 6 Unlocked version (http://whited00r.info/iphone3g.php) because it is faster than iOS 4.1 + Redd00r IMO.

Can I install Redd00r on iOS 4.1?

Well, an other one who did not read post #1 in this thread nor Redd00r FAQ - iOS 4.1 & iOS 4.2.1 Speed Up & Modding - READ BEFORE POSTING! (http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php/topic,6171.0.html).  :-\

Soltmeal has restricted access to the file. Can anyone please upload it somewhere. I need it asap.

Welcome to the forums :)

This is outdated and should not be used until the update due to the horrendous amount of bugs in it and instability (it uses an outdated and buggy set of some tools I made).

No clue when the update is however :(

Also, this base pre-jailbroken firmware caused a mess of issues for people who used it :(

Alright so what should we do then? Use the original Firmware? Which One?

You shouldn't even use Redd00r :(  If you want something, try stock iOS using Archetype (the image in my signature is a link to it).

Sorry about that. I don't know why he did it and just sent an email to him about un-restricting the download. If he does not reply within 1 day, I will upload the firmware & edit the link in the OP.

Even if the current Redd00r is buggy as Brian mentioned above, that Pre-Jailbroken iOS 4.1 firmware can be useful as base to install bcooperizcool's Archetype (see his signature above) on top of it or to play with it or to solve a problem like I described here: iPhone 3G > iOS 4.2.1 Stock > Pre-Jailbroken 4.1 > WD 6 Success (http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php/topic,7408.msg70726.html#msg70726) or it can be used by users who absolutely need an app that requires iOS 4 or later but for me no way I would do that and loose the perks of Whited00r, especially the App Time Machine.  ;)

"I need it asap" - May I ask why?  :o What do you want to do with it?

Well because I had got my original carier sim yesterday and wanted a few ios4 apps to install which required post notification certificates

If you install Whited00r 6 Normal version for iPhone 3G (http://www.whited00r.com/iPhone3G) which is especially customized for Factory Unlocked iPhone's or for users like you that have the original carrier SIM then when connecting to iTunes it will activate the iPhone & also install a carrier bundle & also install a set of Push Certificates. Besides your iPhone 3G will be automatically jailbroken with Cydia already installed & given access to the free apps of ATM.  :)

Now because Whited00r 6 is based on iOS 3.1.3 but tweaked, optimized & with added features then apps that requires iOS 4 or newer will not work.

OTOH there are more than 550 free compatible apps in App Time Machine (http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php/topic,7695.0.html) (ATM) which is included in Whited00r 6 so if you tell me which iOS 4 apps you want, I can search ATM to see if there are versions of those apps available for WD 6.

I spoke with Brian (bcooperizcool) yesterday and he told me that the iOS 4.1 Pre-Jailbroken firmware linked in post #1 has some bugs & causes some problems.  :o Maybe that is why Soltmeal broke the download link.

Also, I posted explanations & a f0rcast screen capture that shows that this firmware fakes that it is iOS 4.3.2 so it will let you install apps that are not compatible with it & that will never work as well as letting Cydia download & install incompatible apps & tweaks causing multiple problems.

If you absolutely want iOS 4, I suggest you download from & install with iTunes the stock iOS 4.2.1, activate it with your SIM, then jailbreak it using redsn0w_win_0.9.14b2 or for Mac: redsn0w_mac_0.9.14b2.

Then you could install Brian's Archetype (http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php/topic,6849.0.html) which is great for tweaking & optimizing many iOS firmware versions or whatever other Cydia tweaks you want.

*****

Since you say that you have the original SIM from the original carrier and obviously the iPhone carrier locked contract is finished, I suggest you check the FAQ page of the carrier as many will Factory Unlock the old 3G for free.

I did this recently for a friend's iPhone 4S before he came to visit me in Costa Rica so he could use a local much cheaper prepaid SIM instead of paying very expensive AT&T roaming charge. It took about 3 days for AT&T's support to do it and then simply connecting the iPhone 4S to iTunes factory unlocked it.

The advantage is you can then use any SIM from any carrier which is useful if traveling but also you will get a better re-sale price if you eBay it. Also the factory unlock is permanent so you can flash any firmware & use any SIM to activate it.
