Okay i have read nearly everything i could find but just only got 1 question that's all:
Is'nt there a 4.2.1 red00r base? As i would like my iPhone to be 4.2.1 not 4.1 if not should i just go ahead installing original stock 4.2.1 and install red00r on top of that?
But won't i be missing the added features etc that's included in this red00r base or will it come with the Red00r?

Any help would be much appreciated, cheers

yeah, so i can't figure out how to decrypt the update ramdisk to see exactly what's in there.  am i missing something bloody obvious?

...this would be a lot easier if someone would just tell me if the bbupdate is disabled in this ipsw, or if someone would just tell me 'that's a stupid question and here's why'

itunes writes that this sim isnt supported blablabla
i also tried to jailbreak this firmware with redsn0w but it writes that this ispw doesnt support

I had posted these in another section, not knowing I needed to post them here. So, here's my experience so far:

"I'm a newby to this forum and had the Whited00r 5.1 version installed on my iphone 3g. Then, I wanted to upgrade to the redd00r and started by trying to install the prejailbroken 4.1 ipsw, as instructed on the website....BUT, when I went to manually load it in iTunes using the Shift+Restore button, it stopped in the process and I received an error code: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1604)."

I then went online and found a site "http://www.saurik.com/id/12" that instructed me to go into DFU mode and try restoring again, in which I did, but then I got the exact code, but with the number (1600) this time.

I was stuck guys and I'm trying, but can't seem to get my phone out of recovery mode at this point.

So, I followed the instructions from http://www.whited00r.com/forum/index.php?topic=5532.0 and have installed the prejailbroken 4.1. But, it is in a state, which looks like recovery...but it's prompting me in different languages to "slide for emergency".

iTunes is also telling me that there isn't a SIM card installed."

I was stuck at this state for a while and I took it in to a developer friend here locally and he said some of the files were corrupt and fixed them...then vualla, the SIM card read from T-Mobile....BUT, the phone is lagging and slow.

Is anybody experiencing this?

same problem as you.....

just do the jailbreak again with other version of redsn0w and verify the ipsw is the correct, the redd00r base is 4.1

I downloaded it, tried to install it via iTunes (10.6.325 - 64bit)
and I dosen't work.
I am stuck with my iPhone in Standard Recovery Mode and my iTunes aborts with:
"Preparing iPhone for restore"
After a while I get the error code 1604

It works just like any other custom firmware. Just use iReb to get into Pwned DFU and then do the Shift+Restore in iTunes. Good luck!!
