Edit 2013-01-09: Whatsapp Partially Working Update!

From App Time Machine - Help the community and save WhatsApp for old devices

Quote
UPDATE 3-Jan-2012: the problem seems partially solved for some v2.8.4 users. It seems that:
- who was using v2.8.4 and suddenly was kicked out from the service due to the block => WhatsApp v2.8.4 working again now
- who tries to install WhatsApp v2.8.4 on a device that wasn't already activated => still not working because verification code is not sent
_______________

In IFile go to /System/Library/CoreServices, abrir SystemVersion.plist press edit, go to ProductVersion and change 3.1.3 for 4.3.1 and DONE, go can Install Whatsapp 2.8.4 in ani iphone 3G!!!! 100% WORKS! i taste NOW!!!!!!!!! ;D

This is a hoax to make you waste your time, see here: WhatsApp Joke Hoax SystemVersion.plist Edit NOT Working

Update: It includes reports by 8 users so far that confirmed that it is NOT working.

Strange, it's always new whited00r users with just a couple of posts that post this waste of time.  :o

Finally I got WhatAapp to work on my iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1 JB.

This is the method I used:

I have modified the version name of the WhatsApp from the info.plist file. In order to do that, I have opened the mentioned file with the plist viewer integrated in the iFile App (Cydia). In my case, the file was located under the path:

file://localhost/var/mobile/Applications/1082EBD1-0453-4C21-B82F-134E914978D1/WhatsApp.app/

I know that the location 1082EBD1-0453-4C21-B82F-134E914978D1 is not unique and that you might have another randomly (?) generated path name that holds your WhatsApp directory and if you don't want to search for it manually (like I did) there is a dedicated software that can do it for you. Google for it as I forgot its name.

Once the info.plist file is located open it and modify the CFBundleVersion string from 2.8.4 (latest running on iOS 4.2.1) to 2.8.7 (latest available).

Save and close.

Open WhatsApp. When prompted for the 3-digit activation code go back to your mobile number selection. Insert a fake one (I put another WhatsApp mobile nuber) and rather than confirm it cancel it and type in your real number.

Voila, the trick is done!

No activation code request anymore.

I hope it works for you too.

Peace,

Munz.

Thanks Munz, finally some info: iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1.

I did not try your trick yet but whited00r 6 users are on iOS 3.1.3.

If I have time later I may try it but the real solution IMO is here: App Time Machine - Help the community and save WhatsApp for old devices

Thank you for posting the important info so we can know what we are talking about.  8)

So it confirms what I said above, that does not work. You are user #8 so far that confirms that it's a waste of time.
