Hi! :)

I'd be grateful for any help you can give.

Apps for my iPhone 3 were becoming obsolete, so I thought I'd jailbreak the phone.  I bought it 'unlocked'.

Anyway, I downloaded both versions of whitd00r and tried them both.  Following the instructions I got the following error message:

The iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604).

It will restore to the factory 4.2.1 ok.

It should work, so please report back even if it does ;) I'm sure another mod will also tell you if I missed something (Possibly something about basebands, because I have no clue about that sort of stuff sadly :/ )

Search for RedSn0w for mac and go to "Extras" ->" PWNED DFU" and follow the instructions :) Should have the same effect as iReb :)

Haha so it restored fine? :D  (asking that because you may get a different error related to something else, so I will wait for a response before locking this thread and marking it as solved)

All seems to be working well so far - it says it can't use some apps though, I dunno why.

Also, in iTunes it says software version 3.1.3 - is that the broken version?  And apparently there's a new version 4.2. Do I ignore that?

You've been really helpful.  Thanks again. :)

Oh good, so you restored fine :)

Some apps because the iPhone is running 3.1.3 now ;)  Faster firmware, and what whited00r uses.   You can use the AppTimeMachine in the app market app (has the appstore icon on your homescreen, swipe left/right to find different stores) to get apps that have dropped support but supported 3.1.3 at some point.

You can ignore it just fine. That's what your iPhone was running before, but you downgraded to get features and speed :)

Also, sorry to say, you can't actually run apps that require a higher firmware. It's just impossible :/  Just a pre-warning for you.

Topic locked and solved :D

Topic Locked
I think I need to unlock it because Pierre wanted it open in case others had similar issues that weren't solved by this (you didn't know that, and wouldn't have known without checking the logs of what was locked/unlocked)

So, topic unlocked for those who may have similar issues that aren't solved by this.
