When the device is off, nothing software wise is running.  It is an old device, and that is likely to happen, but really, only minimal things, such as keeping the clock alive are on.  That's it :(  I'm thinking it is hardware related as it happens even when off :/

when you have the time (or if you can be bothered :P ) restore to the 3.1.3 stock and see you battery drain and how bad it was. Then if it is just as bad I would recommend getting a new battery

my ipod touch 1g happens too. i turned it off about at 75% but when i turn it back on after it has powered off it immediately drops to 43 percent i believe. i think it is the battery problem

Probably because it's old as bcooperizcool said :(

I have an ipod touch 4G and the battery die at 1% per less than 20 seconds :/ on a low usage.

It is relative of how you use your device, and how you optimize the settings, but being aged doesn't help :(

You can change the battery. There are websites and tutorials that tell you how to as well (if you can find them) and it just needs a soldering iron and the battery for your device. Which for an itouch 1 g you can pick up for 15 or about $19 (i think)
