Whited00r 4.4.1 .deb
« on: July 20, 2011, 03:36:03 AM »
Whited00r without restoring!

This is the 4.4.1 release in .deb format

This installs all the features of whited00r in convenient .deb format, including the configurator scripts (minus terminal, just realized I forgot that :o) :)

Instructions:
First install whited00r-updater.deb
Second install whited00r4.4.1.deb

Wait as it goes through the whole process of installing, it will say a bunch of stuff about directories/not placing in them, and then placing files in directories and that sort of thing,  don't worry about it.  If there are any errors though, please tell me!

Once done, open up terminal (you need to install that yourself), and run as root ./Configurator to set it up (case sensitive)

Notes:
-Due to the method of installing (script like dpkg, except it can overwrite, and is much more crude/simple), you can currently not uninstall the firmware once installed.
-It is preferred that you use the .ipsw and do a restore rather than use this, as it will be faster, b/c you don't have all your stuff pre-installed :P
-This should be safe, I tested it multiple times, and all is working well.

That's exactly what this could lead to ;P   I have a secret project idea that has to do with the package name of the 4.4.1 .deb  8)

I will try and stay on top of updates, now that I know it works right :)
Also, it might be in the repo at some point b/c I e-mailed phil these :)

O.o  what is one and what is the other?  Phil might be updating just now, which is why you got the mismatch.

You should start setting up the repo for dependancies. That way if you don't have Terminal installed, it'll go and get it for you. But. What's the difference between this version of whited00r and the one that was up there yesterday? Because... I'm hoping I won't need to restore again, then add my apps, then restore from backup, then install whited00r, then install all my Cydia stuff... Because installing the Cydia stuff takes about four hours with how slow Cydia is, and the infinite respring thing requiring an extra long boot time cause it's rebuilding the NAND structures...

By the way, is the old one uninstallable?

Yeah, I should :P  I don't actually run the repo though, but I have some packages in there :P
This version has a different method of installing (better, no need to reboot and stuff, only respring, and it can overwrite files), as well as updated programs, along with the configurator.
No, you won't need to restore.   You probably don't even need to upgrade yet, but if you did, it wouldn't mess up :P  (I tried it myself, its all fine)

No, the old one is not unstable, it's just old :P   I made an installer for every new .deb whited00r I make, which is way better than what I had before.

Alright. So, installing over the old won't do anything bad. Is this correct? I'll just have to do a full restore if I desire to unintall it.
