[How to] 4.2.1 Multitasking Fix
« on: September 04, 2012, 11:36:47 PM »
This guide will show you how to fix multitasking on older devices running iOS 4.2.1. This fix doesn't add opengles-2 so it won't create the annoying lines that popup everywhere.

Tools needed:
Hex editor: http://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD
SSH Client: http://winscp.net/eng/download.php
Ldone on device: http://cydia.hackulo.us/
Those are the tools I used. Feel free to use alternatives if you know what you're doing.

Step 1: SSH into your device. Go here if you don't know how. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=3221
Step 2: Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app and extract SpringBoard to your computer. Leave WinSCP open.
Step 3: Using a hex editor, replace "kGSOpenGLES2Capability" with "kGSOpenGLES1Capability" (there should be 2 of these) and save.

Step 4: Go back to WinSCP and make a backup of the original springboard and replace it with the new one. Make sure ownership and permissions match.

Step 5: Open Terminal in WinSCP (Ctrl+T). Make sure the directory is "/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app"

If it's in a different directory, type "cd /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app" (Case sensitive)
Step 6: Now type "ldone SpringBoard -s" (Ldone not idone)
Step 7: Keep WinSCP open and keep SSH on, and respring your device. If it resprings forever, then replace the modified springboard with the original file, and make a post with what device you're using and what you used to jailbreak.

Feel free to correct any mistakes or elaborate on any steps. If someone is willing to make a tutorial for macs that would be great.

One question, if I use ur File (from the other post) do I need to change the permission???
Oh yes. Hi.
I see you've noticed this Signature. Well, all I can tell you is that there's nothing to see here.
Yes, there is nothing interesting here. Just keep scrolling and we'll pretend nothing happened.

No. iOS4.1 could use Multitasking normally without the help of OPENGLES-2
Thats why Apple released iOS4.2.1 for iPhone 3G (Part Reason)
Because, they realised that users have found out how to activate Multitasking on the device.

Not working on my iPod touch 2g on ios 4.2.1 jailbroken with the latest redsn0w. I tried this a long time ago and it worked fine, maybe the jailbreak changed.

For iPod Touch 2G users on ios 4.2.1, you guys dont have to go through all the hustle to fix this. Just add this repo in Cydia http://parrotgeek.info/repo and install the fix from there. Youll know it when you see it. ;)

Ummm. I'm not sure if I should try this. Did anyone else try this using iPod Touch 2g MC model jailbroken with Greenpoison? Also, do I have to remove the opengls-2 line from my n72ap plist first?
