Computer will not read iPod touch 4g
« on: June 11, 2013, 02:42:54 AM »
Hi, I've got an ipod touch 4g... and i know that's not "supported' in this forum, but you guys have been REALLY polite and helpful with my ipod touch 2g MC issues...

Just bought it.

It charges fine in my Docks and Car Docks, but it will NOT read OR charge on my 2 Windows 7 Home PCs that I have tried. (One had updated itunes, the other had no itunes)

Here is the error:

On another note: is there any way to transfer files/music/etc from pc to ipod WITHOUT being connected via the cord?

Thanks so much guys <3

Depending on the firmware of the device, you should be able to wirelessly sync, although I think that needs you to have synced at least once with iTunes...   Are you running the latest iTunes version?  Check the data port with a magnifying glass, to see if anything looks out of place.  I know I used an eBay charger with my iPod touch 4G once and was lucky nothing was damaged functionality wise, but it did chip off a bit of plastic from the port :/

it's running iOS 6.1.3.

Inside looks okay. It had been rarely used, and still tight. It works fine in docks, but not with any PC cord. (Tried multiple cords, multiple PCs)

And you're right. Wireless sync requires to be synced at least once :'( :'( (anyone know a workaround?)

Running latest itunes version.

Thanks cooper! <3

I'm not so good with debugging PC on the computer side of things, although I get by on my own just fine.

Have you tried re-installing iTunes, or simply just unplugging the device, and then rebooting the PC and then plugging it back in after the PC is booted up?

What is the error under device manager for the unrecognized device?

error code 43 under "Unknown Device"

When installing the driver directly (the .inf file) it says Apple Mobile Device USB Driver now... but error code 10: Device cannot start.

I had that issue with my zune HD for the longest time.  I don't remember what finally fixed it, I think I tried doing everything on a completely fresh PC install (so, maybe try dual booting?)  and I didn't get an error.  This was a zune hd though, but the error for the driver was the same.  Just install iTunes on a dual boot/fresh install and see if that works.   I don't know the cause of the error, but you could google the .inf file name and the error :)

you could try putting your iPod into DFU mode and re-installing iOS 6 in iTunes. This worked when I had this problem on my iPod. CAUTION IF YOU RESTORE IN ITUNES AND YOU HAVE NEVER BACKED UP YOUR IPOD YOU WILL LOOSE ALL YOUR DATA. you could make an iCloud Backup :) if you put your iPod into dfu and it is still not discovered, hold the power and home buttons until your device boots.

this may be the answer if you are desperate

thanks hope it helps :)
